The red mk2 was a Jupiter red 2.8 Ghia

Jupiter! That was it! Should have known that, I sprayed my mates track bike that colour!

Remember Apollo Green on the Mk2's? I nearly bought a T plate Apollo Ghia.

I grew up with big Fords esp the Granada.

My old man bought Chief Constable James Anderton's official police car from a police auction, it was tricked up with all sorts and went like a rocket.

Happy days with Granada's and Capri's

We used to look after an ex Met Rover 2600, CYW497V iirc. It had Jag brakes, 2300 non self levelling suspension, Koni shocks and Minilites. It drive very well, and it went alright too. It was a 5 speed manual and didn't hang about.
On balance the Granada was a better car - they had a nice airy interior and a superb ride. The Rovers always felt a bit confined.

You could get it on the Mark 3 Capris as well. A mate had an Apollo green 2.0 S on a V plate, a nice thing that was.

I 1986 I had a 1979 2.8i Ghia (WTE 90 T) wonder where it is now... within two months of buying it it had the obligatory genuine spots & fogs, 2.8i front spoiler, rear spoiler from the Injection, Bilsteins, & a Janspeed exhaust.

Absolutely loved that car, just a brilliant car to drive, at the same time I also had a Capri 3.0 Ghia auto with full Janspeed manifolds and exhaust system (lovely sound that car made), but I preferred driving the Granny.

my father bought brand new in 1978 a metallic blue 2.3GL auto. A couple of days later, we went to collect the car from Fry's of Lewisham, dad opens the door (the car was still in the showroom)and finds a power steering fluid puddle on the carpet, on the spot he says to the sales manager, "leave this, I'll take this instead" he bought a silver Cortina 2.0 Ghia auto that was next to it! I was 10 then...

At the same time I had the Granny, a neighbour had an ex-Police spec 2.8i , for some reason... everytime we compared performance, his was noticeably faster in a straight line...

Anyone remember the longer wheelbase Coleman Milne stretched verions of the MK2?.... Not on about the hearse/funeral type things just the ones that had the longer rear doors....

Would have loved to have put on the 2.8i front splitter with spots and fogs and rear boot spoiler on a black one of them.....

My Dad was a Ford Man as well back in the day (seventies) - after 3 Minis. First was a Mark 1 Mexico which he reckoned was the only thing around which equalled the steering feel of the Mini. After that came a Capri 2000S (VAA875R) in Green Jade, black vinyl roof but it had the black interior and not the Cadiz deckchair trim as it was one of the last Halewood built cars before Capri production moved to Germany. I can recall the day he got it from a Ford dealer in the South West, Grosvenor Motors in Gillingham in August 1977 - I still have the Ford all models catalogue we had.
After that was a 3.0S Mark 3, GYD153T. Black with the Recaro front seats and the 7 inch wide RS alloys but on a standard body (not the X plack). That came from Portcullis Motors in Langport, another now defunct Ford dealer.
As well as that we had (for work) a Riviera blue Mark 2 Escort 1300L Estate FOO758T, and a Granada 2.3L Estate, DUD2V which was Solar gold over brown. The Granada had three gearboxes - the first one was noisy at 130'000, the Ford exchange unit jammed in third and the third one was fine. It did the usual Ford V6 trick of stripping the teeth from the camshaft drive gear. When it was pensioned off in 1991 it had done well over 200k. The number plate came off and it went to meet it's fate in Witney Car Auction.

That photo was taken on Epsom Downs in about '86 in the car park right in the middle of the track. Was known as the shagging car park at night!! Unfortunately for Pete and Andy, they've put a barrier up now that get closed in the evening to stop the dogging!

A very rusty early 30TS in gold and a brown 20 TX. He also had a Shitroen GS Club at one point which ate cams for a living and successfully put a Renault 4 (c/w greenpeace sticker) on it's roof in the snow! So it wasn't all bad. I blame him solely for my total hatred of anything French!
So actually he was a bloody good coach!

To be fair they were quite a robust old turd and they rode very well. The 2.0 TS/TX was the one, not the TL with the 1.7 motor. The 30's were savage on fuel, especially the autos. The PRV V6 was a weird engine, a 90 degree V6 (chopped down V8) with an odd firing order. They had Renix injection as well iirc. They used to rust well, too.

The Gold 30TS was a rotting S plate shed he bought (IIRC) off his father in law. It had rot in the roof as well as everywhere else. However, it was a manual and as you say Andy, it rode quite well. Met a sad end though through accident damage just prior to it's MOT. Funny that as it had f*ck all chance of ever passing another!

His 20TX was a very clean car and it shocked us that he'd bought what was actually a good looking car. It was fairly loaded with toys as well.
