Hi All

Now that the V8 bug has bit me I have opted to upgrade my touring from the M50 to M60,
The plan is M60B40 pre EWS, manual 5 speed gearbox, custom exhaust branch manifold, BBB lightened flywheel ( great piece of Kit) ect, once the car is running and all gremlins are solved, I have a stand-alone EMU to fit, followed by individual throttle bodies, and before all the questions of why not just fit a S62 ect, I already have the EMU, and Throttles.

This is the touring its going into

Cheers, slightly harder than I remember from the first time, amazing how one forgets all the difficult bits of the first build when deciding to do it again.

Almost ready then, waiting to see the results with the ITB's.

Just out of curiosity, how much does the flywheel weight?

I didn't weight it, I guess 7KG?, all I know is, it is less than half of the original.
ITB's will be a challenge!

No, bonnet clearance is approx 8mm, although I do modify the cover and all the high bits to attain this :P

How much was it moved over?

Is the hole fitment of the hydro brake servo the same as the standard servo?

Just interested as this is something I'd like to do too. The hydro setup looks much better than the other option of having the brake servo behind the o/s headlight

Very interested in the ITB's. Been thinking about adding them to my M62B46 once I decide what car it will end up in.

However, what exactly are you doing in terms of exhaust manifolds?

Hi All

The hydraulic servo has the same PCD as the E30 holes, just move it over one complete width of the unit.
The ITB set-up will be 2011 after I have got the M60 running faultless.
Exhaust manifolds I am using the gama motorsport ones, when the eventually finish them!

Small update, Gama have not had the time to start the exhaust manifolds, so have sent the car to JP exhausts ( Jon) they are very professional and the service was great, I will collect the car in the new-year and post some pics of the set-up.

Yes, they have given me a price, and the car is with them, they are using mine as a Jig to manufacture other zoners manifolds to cut transport costs down.

Dave, Using flared joiners this time! :x

I'd definately be interested if they can make more manifolds, I've spent a while tring to make mine fit but I'm not really happy with the results. If your man can make more then let us know!! Nice build by the way.

No Probs Mate, Had another made for a fellow zoner aswell!, I am off tomorrow to collect the car, I will post some photo's when back.
They now have used my car to make a template so any zoner can call them and get them made without taking their cars in! not cheap but worth it in the greater scheme.
Cheers

not so much that its worth it , more the fact that this company will actually get off there arses, not leave you waiting for 4 months and actually supply the buyer with what they want. so far all i can say is anyone that is doing a conversion...jpexhausts all the way !!!

Well, had a successful day in the garage today, below are some photos of the exhausts JP did,
I also fitted the propshaft and short shift gear linkage system, Had to cut and reweld the linkage,
the radiator pipework complete, and made a start on the hydraulic brake servo system.

hi, you have made this swap look so easy!! just re-starting my stalled m62 swap (out side build & shite weather) after many hours cutting welding and swearing at my manifolds I have decided to get some made.. how are your performing? and would you recommend them to others doing this conversion?

Hi Littlechef,
Its never easy, but I really enjoy doing the conversion, I have started the car over the weekend and it is brilliant, the lightenend flywheel and custom manifolds make it super responsive! well work the extra money!
Cheers.

Jaw.... FLOOR! I have been dreaming about sticking an M60 into one or both of my motors (e28 and e30) for years now and you really do make it look easy. My inspiration came from this video I found by accident, an m535i with an M60 and some nice pipes... which can only be described as sounding like the satan growling!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJep6m5Uaj0

How easy would you say working on this engine has been - I am by no means an expert spanner monkey but I am fairly profficient at most tinkering jobs and wiring where needed and bits of fabrication - is this going to need expect fabrication skills and what were the most expensive/difficult bits of the engine fit?

Jon :)

Hope to get some video loaded on the week-end.

Jonmsm, Cool link, in terms of difficulty I would suggest you do a few M50 swaps ect then try the V8 as it is a fair amount of fabrication, exhausts and braking system are the most challenging, I believe the engine mounts can be bought.

Took the car for the first drive today and it is a monster!! 3.73 LSD and it spins upto third, problem is that with the lightened flywheel the 3.0L clutch is slipping, so will need to remove the box and fit a 4.4L clutch, not looking forward to this!!!! :o:

Anyway here is a bad quality camera video.
