You would hear it when you pressed in the clutch if it wasnt the right one i think.

Which gearbox did you use?

If m40 or m42 box was used an m20 spiggot was needed (12mm hole). M50 spiggots have a 15mm hole!

If an m50 spiggot is used the input shaft will bounce around in the bearing under fast pull offs ect and shorten the life of the gearbox as a result

Nothing noticed when ive driven cars that have had the spigot bearing forgotten about, but I do expect the gearbox bearings to be under a lot more stress in certain situations

If you used your m20 325 box you shoud have used an m20 spiggot bearing for the reason above mate (12mm hole), when you do your clutch I'd do it at the same time

general rule is if using e30 box use e30 release bearing.... if using e36 box use e36 bearing

im running an m20 release bearing in my m42 box and its been fine for months..

ask in bmw for an m20 spiggot bearing, i cant find the part number sorry but i just asked for one tbh... 12mm hole 8)

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I'm beginning to panic..!

I'm fitting my M42 gearbox tomorrow, the M20 clutch and flywheel is already attached to the engine. I haven't changed the spigot bearing - the M52 item is still attached, based on the fact that the M42 also shares a 15mm inner diameter spigot bearing.
Do I really need to fit the M20 (12mm) bearing?
