Well well well!

I thought that was actually ok. They didn't directly slate, BMW's, E30's or Cabrios in any direct way, just that the ones they bought were a bit, shall we say crap so all the people who piped up on the threads leading up to the show, coming out with tings like "i'm going to write in if they slate E30's" or "values will plummet" etc etc can untwist their knickers and be happy in the fact that their "ride wasn't dissed"!

A few things that happened/they said that made me laugh and were oh so true were,

The clifford alarm causing grief!

"Generally, if a cars been lowered, walk away!"

Owned by a Muslim from Birmingham

Aftermarket stereos that were poorly installed

After market wheels (17" Azev A's) and slammed suspension giving shit handling

The council retrim in Hammonds turd

ALL very funny and most prominently, VERY PROLIFIC ON THIS FORUM!

Notice how the most unmolested one (Mays) was the best?

I would say its fair to say that the feature was a fairly accurate portrayal of E30's in general that the majority are bodged up molested shit boxes on a one way ticket to the weigh bridge!

Haha, it sounded just like my clifford eagle 2. Was rather amusing to say the least.

Like it when his seat broke too.

Spot on. I did my homework 7 years ago and came to the same conclusion. Havn't regretted it so far...........apart from the money I've ploughed into it! 8O
quite right but how much would you have lost on a new e46 if you had bought 7 years ago
Hardly the point when one original remit was to by an emerging classic. I certainly did not realise it would end up owing me so much!!! :(

I was expecting more with the E30's and was quite suprised that it finished with them in (more or less) one piece. I'd half expected them to go through the whole stunt sequnece until the cars wouldn't move any more. I did enjoy seeing E30's being driven hard on TV - even if it was by there idiots.

Did I read somewhere that when TG buy a car for "testing" that the owners get to buy them back after the show for something like a £1?!?

On a whole TG has really moved away from being a decent car show and has turned into an entertainment show with the same gags over and over

I think it's significant that, unlike every other jolly wheeze, none of the three of them were seen on the public road at any time.

You can just see Andy Wilman's face at Munich Bellends's quote for 3 MoT's.

"How much?! Fack that! Think of something else. Quick."

Haha, I was waiting to get on this forum after last nights T.G.

So much hate on here for any other cars. There lots of good RWD cars for around 2k now, and most if not all will not be 20 year or more old.
But even if its not RWD, does that matter? really?

Shame they couldn't have bought better examples I give you that, as they where turds and 90% of people who watch T.G will now think E30's are shite.

Hopefully the 90% will only think convertibles are shite and that the rest are OK. They could have got really well specced edirty6's at that price so interesting they went with E30's. They didn't slag the cars off, more their owners history

Did quite like the fact they nearly had to spend £2k and they only got sheds, anyone that watched will think decent looking ones would be serious money

I think people are missing the message hidden under all this.

New BMW 325 convertible - £36k approx. TG Track time with the Stig was 1m20? ish.

Old dog E30 325 Convertible - £2k approx + £11k for Munich Legends to fix it to "showroom condition" - 1m40 on the TG track with JC driving and no brakes.

Throw in £100 for a good interior valeting and who is the winner?

I enjoyed it - not the best overall episode but an enjoyable watch all the same.

The crashing into each other at the end was totally predictable but apart from that it was entertaining.

Perhaps the answer here is to ask the Zone Top Brass to approach the BBC with the view of providing top class E30's for a special show in 2013,the thirty year anniversary?

That way we could have a sporting chance of showing the viewing public just what E30 ownership is all about.....

Indeed. However...
d6dph wrote:But was it? They showed three obviously tired examples and had some fun. The prices they paid were way on the high side so in effect ours are now worth more to joe public.

They didn't go down the marina route of making the car out to be totally rubbish either. I think we got off lightly.
I think this is a good point. The worst (Hammond's) was 1.6k, which is still fair money but he purchased an utter shitbox. May's was arguably the best, and that was 1.9k.

With the input from Munich Legends it certainly suggests (to joe public) that good examples must be at least 4-5k+.

The E30 cabrio may be old, but it is at least great fun. PROPER sideways on the track, was great to watch. Cue sudden interest at work from people regarding our E30s methinks...
cecotto479 wrote:If you're just using RWD and £2000 as the criteria, the E36 is the one to have. It's currently firmly "banger" as opposed to "classic", though.

To be fair, I don't think they stipulated RWD or classic. It's good auto suggestion for the masses though nonetheless.
E30 > E36 though in terms of image.

With an E30 you can convice people you are into classics. With the E36, you just look...well...poor.
charlE30 wrote: Did quite like the fact they nearly had to spend £2k and they only got sheds, anyone that watched will think decent looking ones would be serious money
And with summer approaching, I think it can only be a good thing for E30 cab values.

Well, I didn't think the show was too bad. They didn't seem to say anything negative about the car, other than it being the 3rd(?) biggest killers of Yuppies in the 80's. Some could argue that was quite a positive thing!

J.C's car looked to have the better stance out of the three - must have been down to the slab of concrete in the boot! :D

PS. I'm sure Ko's car has had it's fair share of pubes and poo in the rear seats considering some of the things he gets up to....

I liked the comment that e30's tail happy handeling made it the 3rd biggest killer of yuppies next to 911's and braces acidents :D

Seriously it dosen't matter , it's a TV show and was harmless fun. We own the cars because WE like them , not because of someone elses opnion. When the 3 TG presenters are dead and nothing but dust the 3 cabs will still be making some Chinamans breakfast nice and warm!

Sorry to push this in another direction but there were three good things came out of last night's E30 section on TG:

1) They all chose the same car, which is the only RWD 4 seater convertible you can get for 2k by my calculations
2) It demonstrated that 17" wheels and excessively lowered suspension on a cab ruins the handling
3) The car's didn't get trashed like most other budget car specials they've done.

they never said anything negative about E30's directly but the have probably put the boot in towards folk who may have been thinking about buying any 20+yr old motor.. between the cost of fixing them up, the condition of what may be lurking on the steering wheel etc & even though car burglars are out there they help show how to try force entry in to a convertible not to mention that Richards E30 had a fairly new alarm system fitted and the guy still drove it away.

Think the new 325 was 1m30 tbh? Also clarkson's was an Automatic which seems even more impressive really... if that was May's (which was faster) You'd be looking at £1900 + £4000? and a better lap time with clarkson driving
