M50/52 how to tell and is it worth it?

Hi guys im unsure to what the engine in it is or what year. what is the best way to tell, the story is that its a friend of mine who ownes a repair garage and it got wrote off before xmas and the insurance told him to do what ever he wants with it. He cant get hold of the guy to find out what it is and it has a private plate and wen u search it doesnt come back with anything prob registered as scrapped. It owes him £500 how can i tell what it is and do u guys reckon its worth the money thanks dan

That looks to me like an m54 engine, its definatly dual vanos. Would be more trouble than its worth to put in an e30!!
