got abit of time today so i put the door on:

Image
Image

Didnt take me that long and it was quite easy to line up but i found some rust so i might repair it or get another one.

When i got the car, i found someone had chopped the left side electric window switch wires which is quite annoying as i wanted to spend more time on the body. Heres the wires and the parts i robbed from the doner:

Image
Image

i went to Maplins to get some wire shrink wrap but only bought one sizes thinking it would be okay but some of the wires needed tape, not ideal but it does the job:

Image

The drivers side front indicator didnt have the plug so i soldered a new one on:

Image
Image
Image

Fitted the bumper on, the original one was bent so i had to put the red one on, only temporary until the Mtech 2 goes on:

Image

Turned all the lights on, only 2 bulbs needed, one indicator and one fog. Didnt replace the fog light as i will do it when i take the valance off:

Image

Tried taking off the rear bumper but bolt wont come out so im going to have the take it off in a different way.

Hopefully be able to do some more tomorrow.

Had an hour or 2 after work today so i wanted to get the back bumper done. The cover got ripped off when i got it and the beam was left, i thought great 2 bolt and off, how wrong was i!!! The mounting bolt had come loose so i had to cut thought the fibre glass and smash the bumper off!

Image
Image
Image

And then there was a tow bar to deal with, after about half hour of bolt after bolt, it came off.

Image

Image

Found some new rust!!! :x

Image

I thought the bumper off the red one would come off easily, again, 45 minutes of effing and blindin', it came off and went on.

Hopefully get it MOT'd tomorrow.

could a decent bodyshop not beat out the majority of the dents in the boot??? a decent panel beater equiped with slide hammer, dolly and panel hammer could surely.

Why? Do you not think its right for an MOT?

The bolts werent there as it had a tow bar on, had about 15 bolts to take off just to get it ready for the replacement.

Judging from the pics shown it should be pretty easy... the hard part will be getting the suage line to sit true again.

I said it because im surprised that you would take it for an MOT when the body repairs are not finished finnished.

The hole in the battery tray also looks a bit suspect and is close enough to the strut tower suspension mount to be a fail.

Well theres nothing really stopping me from doing the MOT, theres no sharp edges and it all panel damage.

The hole is on the tray itself and it needs to be part of the tower to fail.

Well, after a few days of graft, its MOT time. A few pics to go along:

Image
Image
Image
Image

It PASSED!! :D Had to replace a few bulbs and adjust the headlight beam but apart from that, nothing to fail it.

Image

As the car was on the ramp, i had a good look around with Brian, my mate and MOT tester, we spotted a few things. The track rod end had a little play but nothing that would fail the MOT, the fuel pump was very noisy, the car had a few dents in the chassis (maybe where the car has been man handled at Copart) and this bit of rust one the driver's side front arch:

Image

Looks like some more welding!! :x

After the MOT, i decided to give the car a good service. Changed the windscreen wipers and got the stuff:

Image

The oil look quite clean and new but thought i would change it any way. Not too sure how old the filter was tho:

Image

Spark plugs needed changing:

Image

Only changed 3 because one was wrong. :(

Also put some of this stuff in:

Image

I do like to use it and not too sure if it makes a difference but i do like to use it.

Next is the VIC test and get the wheels balanced and resealed.

Actually, the method of inspection is if its within 30cm of a suspension mounting point (which it is) then its a fail.

I know this because i am an Mot tester.

Its ok though, your "mate" passed it.

At the end of the day, Brian is the MOT tester not me. I know people work in different ways and im sure your right but with Brian and yourself, i wouldnt tell you how to do your job.

On a personal note, i've not seen many MOT testers take the battery out and look under to see if there is any corrosion.

I'm just happy the car passed. :D Thanks for the heads up tho Barry. Would love to do the same with my car as you have with yours.

Thats fair enough, if the battery was "strategically" placed then i guess he would not notice it.

Yes its good that its passed as it will speed up the red tape that is the VIC check etc.

Are you repairing the quarter before the VIC or after?

Fair play for saving it, most people would have nicked the best bits off of it before it was cubed. 8)

Hopefully get the VIC done before i go Vegas. If not, will have to be done in a fortnight. Depending on the VIC really, was thinking of leaving it with my mate for the week and leaving it upto him when he wants to repair it.

Cheers, i know it looks odd but good at the same time. When Brian was doing the MOT, he said that the panel should come out with a decent panel beater.

Well, taken it to my friend yesterday and he said it can be pulled out and bogged, only issue with that is getting the panel back on and looking straight! I told him the other option and he said replacing the panel would be alot easier and save alot of prep time. So i need to cut the quarter off the red one and give it to Kevin (my mate) and let him pic it and weld on. But before he does, he needs to put a new arch on which i will get from Hadrian Panels. Will try and do some of this before i go away.
