steering rack time.
bought these yesterday from gsf

fitted today - jobbed!

having a look at my modded linkage it has coarse splines on one uj for the steering column and fine splines on the other for the e36 rack so this one works

i have acquired a couple of e34 uj's in case i have any clearance issues with the zaust fanimould. However, only one will fit to the e36 rack and the other has fine splines also so won't fit the coarse splines on the column
what's the score here then,i thought x2 e34 uj's were needed with a splined middle jointer so how is it supposed to work that way when only one end fits ???

where does the rack go now then,in the front cross member holes or the rear ones and do i put the spacers either side so it's in the middle or at the top so it's lower or at the bottom so it sits higher ? any thing needed to be trimmed/adjusted etc before i go ahead and fit it ????
i'd like to get it right 1st time if poss

^ not true my friend. Mick has a Danthe steering bar. This means you keep original rack possision. This keep everything correct. Rear holes ftw Mick.

Dezzy is correct. I have just gone and tried it on bits I have laying around. God knows why I didn't put it in there when I fitted it, probably just read they were the holes to use. I don't know how Lee was having a problem in that link I posted (although I was just playing with a lhd e36 m3 rack, could be different slightly)

You need to rebuild the one UJ with part of an E30 linkage Mick, so it fits the column spline.

if i have any issues with the modded linkage i have Dan i'll post one e34 uj to you with the top half from an e30 one and i'll need the connecting splined bar to go with it to finish the job,i may need some of those lurrrvley pas pipes also when the time comes to bolt it all together which will be very soonDanThe wrote:You need to rebuild the one UJ with part of an E30 linkage Mick, so it fits the column spline.

If that welded link was made for an E30 rack you will have to fit the E36 rack in the front holes
