Is it my imagination or have e36 328 prices just crashed recently?

Seems like it, you can up a near minter for under £1500, might be something to do with pump prices I guess

Coupe with history, no obvious issues and 110K miles for under £400.

Tourings are going for silly money as well. the last 3 I've looked at all went sub £600.

Maybe I've got jaded eyes and can accept the odd fault that would turn others off

a coupe for £400 will have plenty of obvious issues.
rust in wings and arches, bushes, sensors.
the same principles apply to e39's.

i sold high mileage S reg 328i coupe for £1500 about a year ago. it was sold with in a week of advertising. the usual spec in Arctic silver, black leather, a/c. 15" wheels with good branded tyres (says a lot about the previous owner). it was almost mint, no rust and never seen paint. just a couple of stone chips and couple of minor dents. full service history and recent receipts for ABS sensors, clutch and other work done. the car was a nice car and it will sell for the same money today. if held out i believe i could have sold it for nearer 1800. it drove like a new car.

Decent 328i's, especially coupes and tourings, still fetch good money. Anything less than £1500 is a typically a moneypit. I sold an immaculate 1997 316i saloon for £1200 recently (110K, minty mint bodywork, comprehensive paperwork since new, FSH, 4 matching Vredestein tyres). "Proper" cars cost money. A £400 coupe will almost certainly have an abundance of issues.

easy boys, i'm getting giddy at the prospect of all this money! If i gave a quick run down of it, would anyone be able to give me an area to aim for when selling? don't want to hijack.....

I bought an N plate 328 se touring in spring 2009 for £1200. It was nothing special body wise but everything worked as it should both electrically and mechanically and it had a proper full leather sports interior, ice cold aircon and a decent enough amount of history. Mileage was 128,000

During my ownership it had 2 oil services, an interval one, a new set of boots and the rear springs/shocks were replaced. It passed 2 MOT's with no advisories bar the rear springs, never used any oil, never let me down and returned a consistent 29 mpg. All servicing/MOT was documented and added to the service history.

I sold it a couple of weeks ago with 145,000 on the clock to a hungarian chap from holland who arrived in a belgian car and asked for it to be re-registered in edinburgh  for the princely sum of 700 euro basically because nobody else wanted it.

The sub £400 coupe I mentioned earlier was in similar condition to the touring when I originally bought it and a lower mileage - and, like I said, no obvious issues.

Maybe I was lucky with the touring, maybe the coupe is a grenade waiting to explode - my original comment stands though

they're just old. Just makes a 328i a brilliant buy, still a good car now.

I paid £850 for my 328i touring, leather,A/C PDC etc but its a cat C with 166k on it. I expect looking around now its probably a £5-700 car as the bodywork is tatty but not rotton anywhere. Mechanicals all good and everything works.

mine's a 99 T 323i sport with an m52b28 fitted, avus blue, heated half leather, digital dual climate, air con, asc, gaz coilovers with brand new rear springs, brand new gaz adjustable front top mounts, compbrake rose jointed rear top mounts, genuine 8x17 and 9x17 b8 alpinas with brand new tyres, new clutch
clocks show 170,000 but i was told when i bought it the 2.8 had 70thou on it. have no proof unfortunately but it drives like a dream and pulls like stink.
bodywork is straight, no rust, paint looks stunning when polished up
the only bad points are obviously the miles on the clock and a 5p size hole in the lower drivers seat bolster on the leather. interior is mint.
Full service history and when it goes up for sale it will have a brand new inspection 2 by simpson motorsport and 12 months ticket

rough guesstimate?

Was looking at 328 coupes when i bought the e30 and there were loads around 1500. Wasn't aware of the throttle body mod or i'd have been more interested but as it was the e30's performance was on a par and too many 328s were councilled beyond repair 8O

Would definitely consider a swap on a fully loaded 28 touring now though ... But reckon i'd miss the e30 q-car factor and road presence

what e30 are you comparing to performance wise mate? my e36 is standard m52b28 and my e30 is standard m20b25 with a 6 branch and the e36 would make an absolute mess of the e30 in a straight line, and round bends for that matter!
the e30 has bags of grunt but not an overly quick car in this day and age, my e36 is genuinely fast, suprises plenty of modern 'performance' cars!

it does lack a certain feeling that the e30 gives you when driving it though, you switch off a bit in a '36, but i'm always smiling when in the '30!

Seen the car in the flesh and it is a very clean which looks smart. Matt's car has really made me want a e36 touring and i hate e36's :D

cheers mad! it will be tidier still when it goes up for sale. some prick vandalised my bonnet the other night so i'll prob just replace it with a good un. i'll get a few little marks sorted so its a true minter. i'd rather lose a few quid and sell a mint car
