Hmmm - aside from the gay thing (intriguing and deeply worrying all at the same time) - I would check the injector plug pins themselves - these tend not to sit in the 2 pin housing very well if they have been taken on and off a few times, and if the 'jaws' of the pin are moving you will easily have your intermitment problem. The plugs are designed to be fitted once at the factory and should be a tight as a gnat's chuff. You can get plugs easy peasy off of Fleabay or Demon Tweeks or Merlin motorsport.

All new parts for all the injectors should make a big difference - do a continuity check back to the ECU to confirm and all should be improved.

Apologies to DanThe if it's one of his looms - I know his work is excellent so I am going on the assumption it isn't! :thumb:

Cheers,
Mike

the jaws on the connectors do look a bit slack as the rail has been off a few times, so electrical connections may not be blinding.

The injectors should be OK as they have been serviced by Injectortune.

The loom is one of Dan's and I would have no idea how to test continuity at the ECU end as I have no idea which pins on the ECU correspond with the injectors etc. Hell I haven't even wired up the tacho yet and the car has been on the road for 6 months now (just renewed tax disc)

There is a flucutation in revs if I fiddle about with the injector connector rail when the car is ticking over, so suggests the fault is in that area.

Bodge a small screwdriver/pokey thing down the plugs if they are loose to close them up.
FWIW I dont touch any part of the injector wiring on the looms 8)

But as you are saying, if the engine note is changing as you move the injector wiring tray there must be a bad connection there somewhere

Don't be stupid lee! You don't go through the whole build, write off and re-shell just to break it when it has a small electrical problem.

Get it sorted, go nuts with the multimeter measuring sensors and check all the connections, then once its sorted you'll be loving it all over again!

I'll give it a fair chance, when it is on song it does feel f'kin quick, but I really haven't had an opportunity to properly enjoy the car.

Already got the replacement car sorted in my mind, still 24v but Twin Turbo.

Dez, if it gets sorted this weekend, then I'm ready to come up to yours, bend that pipe with the gas axe and then get your donk thrown in. Sorry it's been so long dude.

As the others have said, check the terminals in the injector plugs for any of them being a loose fit.

Dont jam a screw driver to check them though, use (if you have it) a scrap male terminal the same size as the pins in the injector or something just as thin.

Don't worry mate. Just getting back to work after 8 days in bed with the flu.

Be nice to get it finished but there's no panic tbh.

Fingers crossed yours plays ball this weekend. 8)

will a precision screwdriver do OK or the terminals from my multimeter?

The outer part of the plug casings are pretty loose in the rail, is this normal? They are not rigid to the rail and wobble a little bit.

Yes they are just clipped into the rail so not meant to be solid. Id just run along each connector and close it up slightly with a small screwdriver

There is so much depression coming from this thread I feel like driving up there and fixing it myself! I mean, twin turbos for fucksake??!!

Even mutimeter terminals can be a no no!

In my Renault days, loose terminals were quite common.

Now at BMW, we have cabinets full of break out leads for testing wiring to eliminate people stabbing various terminals and opening them up.

Once this turd is running how it should, that's me done with cooonting about. OK I'll do maintenance and the bodywork can't be ignored, but I seriously aren't going to bother with the V12 shizzle I had in mind

Well it seems like the car has signed a good behaviour bond.

Had a fiddle with the injector connectors and it seems to be performing as it should on a brief drive where I got the car up to normal running temp. Light & full throttle in all gears seems to be OK.

Will keep an eye on it, but hopefully this is the last of the "niggles" and I can start to enjoy the car.

Still thinking about changing the suspension to B4 dampers and 40mm drop and run it on stock BBS 15's with original size tyres.

Im glad to hear that its running a bit better :D

I've got b4 fronts and had b6 rears on mine with a 35mm drop (and e90 drophats on the front) and i think it sits quite well. Ive only got pics with the hartges though, and its a facelift, and its got iS rear springs back on at the moment so this probably doesnt mean anything to you :o: (come to think of it, i could be on b6's on the front and b4s on the rear :chuckle:)

It works. Fresh import. Remarkably un-ruined.

In a few years time I can see the proper GTR's being worth a bit as they do like a bit of molestation in the Jap scene.

Sounds nice, there was an awesome R32 at Brands today - Rays wheels, AP brakes and in that lovely grey colour.

This is that grey colour.

Alas, there is a few on pistonheads and they are not that much money for what you get. Around £8k. A standard one would ruin an e36 m3 and even a 318is.

I'm more of a fan of the Toyota 1JZ lump like shown in that pic, the Nissan RB does have one advantage I believe when it comes to dumping one in a RHD E30, the exhaust is on the other side isn't it?

Yeah the RB has that advantage, but the JZ is definitely the one to go for. One with 400bhp or so would do me nicely.

A trip to see brother Dezmondo beckons for Sunday, hopefully some tweaking of the exhaust will stop it trying to shave cats eyes under acceleration. Then get his 24v donk installed

I'm still in 2 minds about wheels & tyres. I do like the look of the mims, they are quite period, but the tyres are too low profile to absorb pot holes and any other surface defects.

My thoughts at the moment are

1- Replace the tyres with 45 profile and see where that leaves me with arch clearance, maybe go back to a 40mm drop for more suspension compliance and smoother ride

2- Move the mims on and replace with stock 15" BBS with 205/55 boots and go back to a 40mm drop
