Working on it, will see if my local supplier has a shop in Dubai, I am in Oman right now but try a ride into sharja and you will find loads of car spare shops. Locate a BMW sign and i will almost guarantee they will have bushes and both ball joints. For a couple hundred chips you can have both sides done at any of the local garages - no need to get you hands dirty round these parts!

Enjoy the more door, park it close to all expensive cars in tha mall and enjoy the feeling of them worrying when a turd is parked next to their pride and joy!!!!

You will find the AC is very good, it may need a regas but here that costs 80dhs and takes 5 mins, not like uk where it costs the earth and takes all day, only the environment pays the price of a release of cfc gas!!!

A few hundred chips to pay someone to change the parts sounds very tempting. Yes I could do them myself but the only tools I have with me is a set of screw drivers from a Christmas cracker.

Never mind the parking in the mall, wait till they see my defensive driving during rush hour.. winkeye

Nice thing about e30...all nuts and bolts, local lads will change no bother!

With regards to defensive driving, you really need to be in the fast lane to worry these lads, not easy in the 320!!!! I speak from experience!!!!

Secondly they are all in land cruisers, patrols, or taxis- they will not worry too much!

Fast lane? I've never been anywhere that has more speed cameras! Not only that but they're very hard to spot too.

Coming out of International shitty where I currently reside onto the highway is like something from the wacky races. It's nuts. Getting back in in the evening is fun too. I don't think a lot of thought really went into desiging the roads here. There are some crazy junctions.

mrLEE30 wrote:Very difficult to give a real answer, everything in the middle east is linked to your residence permit number, so registration, house, bank etc all linked. If your man has fled then two things can happen the bank can fe a case against the guy and this freezes all activity linked to his RP number, or nothing may have happened.

What you need is copies of his Passport and RP then try and transfer the bike to your name, if your lucky it will go ahead and you have a bike, if a case is filed then the registration will be blocked. This will not affect you as you claim you paid cash fir the bike from the guy who fled. WORSE case is they impound the bike- but unlikely. Now at least you know the situation. For info you would not be able to export the bike in this case either. Your option now is to try someone who knows someone to fix it, or break the bike down to sell or export as parts. But you will never register it in uk assuming you get the bike here in one piece as you dont have the required paperwork.

My advise is nothing to lose from trying to register it if you can get tie guys Passport copy.

I will also ask a mate in Dubai if he can help you.

Good luck
Mr fix it strikes again by the looks of things. The check on the bike has come back all clear, and he has an aquaintance in the RTA who has assured us that as soon as he gets back from his vacation it will be a doddle to provide me with the relevant registration documents.

RESULT!!

The turd is home. I literally just brought it back.

There's several bulbs out so the check panel was pretty lively.
It won't tick over when cold.
there is no response from the AC unit so I suspect a fuse has gone.
Bushes defo need replacing.
It's caked in dust.

There's enough to keep me busy there. I have 15 days to get it registered (requiring an MOT type pass) - Let the fun begin!

I'm just goin to have some scran and then I'll give it a wash and get a few pics if I can. winkeye

Gave the old girl a hose down and treated it to some local Maquires type cleaning products(fairy liquid) and it came up surprisingly well.

Who knows? After a few weeks/months driving I'l have a better idea. It will be an adventure and I'll make sure my credit card can cope with a flight from the nearest airport if it doesn't.

Air con fixed (fuse) - works a treat. quoted 300aed to change the front bushes. That's about 60 quid plus parts. Not bad.

It made it t work and back today but it's doggish when cold. I'll see how it is after a good service. Bushes first and then the oily bits..

progress. :D

I'm a man of limited means. It'll do for now. I still haven't worked out how long I'm staying here for either cos the job's a bit up and down. Having said that I agree with u to a certain extent. I wouldn't have looked twice at this in the UK. :?

That'd be a hell of a drive to get it back. If you can get it across the UAE, Kuwait and through Turkey okay, you'll only have the whole of Europe to get it across..... :D

It's be an adventure, but I'd be chucking a belt, tensioner and pump on it first. With tools, petrol cans and a few gallons of water you should be okay.

If you can get it across the UAE, Kuwait and through Turkey okay
you forgot the big countries on this list, 1500km of Saudi Arabia and assuming you do go through Kuwait you then have about another 2000km of Iraq prior to setting a wheel in Turkey!!! Not my route of choice!

Better to do the 500km through UAE to Saudi, then another 300km and over night in Khobar 1200km through Saudi to Jordan over night in Amman. Then tackle the 500km of Syria (may taker more than a day)and into Turkey, overnight in Adana. Through Turkey to Ankara next day Istanbul, day six of constant driving will see you in Bulgaria.

From there a doddle only Romania,Hungary,Austria, Germany and Belgium sees you in Brugge. Ferry to Blighty. Easy!

Alternative to two weeks of driving, god knows how much fuel, hotels, food, break downs, muggings, fines, bribes etc is a 400quid 6 hour flight.......hmmmmmm good luck!!!

PS did you find a place to supply parts for the turd? 600chips is not a bad price have them do the upper and lower ball joints too as they are cheap.

A friend of mine pointed me in the direction for a few garages etc and the quote for the work was fine but I still haven't found a parts supplier. The garage says they can get em but id rather source them if I can. I have a few numbers to call today so we shall see.

Sorry to say but for 8k you should have been able to afford a decent tech 2 320! If the thing does not run then try to take it back and get your money back.

Not running below 2k sounds like big air leaks, buy a can of carb cleaner from ACE and spray it in all the inlet area with engine running, any change in engine tone is where your leak is.

Fixed. :D

The problem was the simplest of simple to fix. The electrical connector for the idle control valve was not plugged in properly and the exhaust sensor was not plugged in at all. :hammer:

I did take off the air intake assembly too and checked for leaks but all seems good there. However, I don't recall ever seeing an air filter in more dire need of replacing. It is rather dusty out here, but OMG...

It starts on the button and behaves impecably now!

I just need to get it booked in for some nice new bushes and give it a damn good service.
