What will an e34 525tds touring do to the gallon?

Around 30mpg in town and around high 30's on motorway. Good engine but no blisteringly quick.

Not much more than a 525 Petrol Touring and there's more to go wrong with the diesel.
BTW - I've had just over 700 miles from the 80 litre tank in a 525tds manual

Looks like the conclusion is no matter what consumption it does then don't bother
