It's more of a rolling rule book tbh.

Any possible new members must get 3 nods. This is very hard as our standards are high. :D

My first attempt at doing some night time shots, pretty lame. Really should make an effort to wash the car, oh and fix it too.

Been continuing with my attempts at getting the turd to run right.

Couple of observations.

1- Whenever I switch the ignition on, the fuel pump is heard to prime for about 3-5 seconds. It will do this when you first go to the car when it hasn't been driven, but also even after you have run the car and then switch it off, a minute later and it will prime again. There is also an audible groan/fart noise that comes from the fuel rail when doing this. Do you reckon this could be FPR?

2- The electrical connections to the injectors aren't brilliant. The little metal spring clips on the connector rail don't really seem to hold the injectors down solid, I can certainly pull the connector rail off injector #1 without any effort. When I do pull it off you immediately notice it takes a cylinder down.

3- The poxy connector on the back of the inlet manifold that the ICV pipe feeds to is a really shite connection, even though this is brand new and has the retaining clip. I started it earlier and it revs at a high tickover for 30 seconds before settling down a bit, but then was hunting up & down, so I reached under and pushed that connector back in firm and the idle smoothened out.

Just went for a quick blat and it seemed to have most of it's mojo back. I'm not convinced it is pulling as cleanly as it should from low down, but midrange and top end shizzle seems to be there. I had a play with an E39 540i and he wasn't getting away, no sireee :)

Dan - what's your view on this fart/groan when the fuel system primes? Should it be priming like this or should it be maintaining pressure after being switched off?

Also, what's the best way to keep that poxy ICV connector a tight fit to the inlet manifold?

I'm all about straight line speed these days Alex :)

Another thing I have noticed is when you put the ignition on and the fuel pump primes, the fuel gauge activates as expected, but when it has finished priming the needle then jumps up a fair old bit and then stays at the higher mark (presumably the true reading). it stays at such level once started.

Anything?

This car was originally a pov spec non-injection car, so it has the bigger 63ltr tank fitted. I ended up with more hoses than connections when it comes to the breather pipes on top of the tank.

I've presumably got the feed correct and the return pipe goes to the nipple on theleft front side of the tank, christ knows if it've got the correct breather pipes connected. I do get a whiff of fuel inside the car especially when it is quite full of fuel. I also can't remember if I have a gasket/rubber ring fitted between the fuel pump assembly and the fuel tank aperture.

I'm pretty sure I've found the dodgy misfire source.

I'm confident it is the electrical connectors to the injectors. Went out for another run just then. Stopped the car and re-started it and immediately it was spluttering and ticking over lumpy, any throttle action made it worse, so lifted the bonnet with it ticking over like a shitting dog and pressed down above #1 injector and it went away.

So I'll look at whipping that off and seeing if I can do anything about it.

All I want to do is drive the coont, not spend another year fucking about with it, grrrrrrrrrr

The spring clips that are supposed to be on the injector elec plugs are the same as most 2 pin plugs, so just rape another elec plug of its spring for that one

The FPR does groan a bit when returning fuel to the tank, the pump will prime every time the EWS module drops the chip signal, regardless of pressure

If you think the U shaped hose under the manifold isnt sealing just clean it off with thinners/carb cleaner etc and refit it with some gasket sealer.

Like the first pic 8)

No mate, #5 are the clips that hold the injectors to the fuel rail. I'm on about the little metal spring clips that the electrical connectors on the injectors are held in by.

Cheers Dan, I'll have a look through my scrap and see if I can find any other connectors with clips still working.

The car has had a quick wash now :)

There is defo something dodgy with these injector connections, i took the spring clip off and bent it inwards, refitted it and it clicks nicely and holds the injector firm, but the misfire still is there and alters if I push down or move the plastic holster that all the injectors connect to. Run out of light now so will have to look another day, maybe the wiring inside is suspect, had a quick look and nothing obvious.

It behaved for about 2 mins and I went around the block, gave it a stab in 2nd and it lit the rears up, turned a corner and navigated over/around a speed hump and it came back. :-x :-x :-x

WD40 in the plugs, are the rubber seals in the plugs? If not the plug will be able to move a bit, getting the cover off is worth a look 8)
