Ok so my 325i sport came with a full scorpion manifold-back system which is particularly loud.

As much as it is funny when everybody wonders what is coming up the road I am not a big fan of loud exhausts, nor are my neighbours I expect, and as such I have even considered swapping it out with an oem system.

Does anyone have any ideas for quitening an exhaust down?

Slightly off-topic but do you guys think having an aftermarket exhaust is likely to have a negative or positive effect on resale value?

Yes Scorpions are rather throaty!!
Do sound nice on tickover and when they resonate at higher RPM 8)
I have a full ss system on mine and I love it, bit drony on motorway but it's a weekend toy so I don't mind. I'm even thinking of taking out the hi-fi gear as I prefer to listen to the engine/exhaust soundtrack.
I wouldn't bother trying to quieten it down, sell it on and replace with a proper OEM system instead.
I doubt it would affect residual value at all as it's only an exhaust!! Pureists may frown but that's about it.
Who gives a crap anyway :D

Cheers suchy
I agree they sound pretty nice, just gets a bit too loud for me sometimes!
I am thinking of selling it in a few months time and maybe getting a sports bike.

Maybe I should start a new post for this and by all means say you have no idea but what do you reckon a 1987 D 325i sport 2dr is worth?
It's metallic grey with about 115k on the clock, New MOT and a recent clutch replacement.
Mechanically it is all fine, engine / gearbox / LSD etc all ok.
However, it lacks history unfortunately and is due a service. The driver's seat is pretty warn and the bodywork needs tidying up (but no issues with rot). It's standard apart from scorpion system, K&N and a momo steering wheel.

Just looking for ball-park figures but what you guys say might help me decide whether to keep it or not... :?:

You know what, I have no idea what they are worth as I don't follow prices as it doesn't bother me (no intention of selling) but a good clean Tech 1 is a desirable car so a keen price IF it's a good one. Lots of rusty sheds out there.... :D

IMO the OEM centre/Scorpion rear combo isn't very much louder than the full OEM system.
I stood no more than 10ft from the back of mine with it at up to 6k rpm on the dyno and I was actually surprised how noisy it wasn't.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

A new scorpian isn't loud, a well used scorpian with 20 - 30k+ on it can get very loud.

I cut two small fire extinguishers apart, unscrewed the valve/trigger bit and used the top section to form a restrictor.. these are now bolted into backbox...effective!

should probably get an OEM centre section and take those out again!

You reckon? :D
I've had mine from new and quiet it isn't!! It still hasn't got that raspy sound you get when the baffles are shot (or cheap) but I would never have described it as quieter than a standard system, even when new!! :D
Personally I rate them as a good aftermarket ss exhaust system

I have a SS Scorpion rear box,on a standard system,it has a lovely tone, far better than a completly standard system, therefore,my advise would be as mentioned by Blitz, simply replace the centre box with a OEM one.
Nice tones, and no Roy Bacer rackets!
