318is, wont start - seems like a full charge in the battery, no click from starter, no noise from fuel pump - i can hear a dull click when i turn the key (full set of lights on the dash) - (interior lights dont dim when turning the key) - drove the car to work with no problems, went to start it tonite and nothing - its dead,
any ideas ?
sick now - just about the final straw with me and e30s

there was a cable on the front of my starter motor that kept coming loose if i parked the car nose forward down a hill, possibly a loose cable on starter? If not give it a whack with something, that usually solved no starts with my 320
.
Other than that, i dunno????

do the dashboard lights (battery, oil) dim as you turn the key to start? My fuel pump and starter didn't work when my battery was dead. I think it's your battery, could be a drain somewhere.

Put a test light on the starter feed wire from the ignition switch and get someone to turn the key, this checks if it is gettting a signal from the ignition switch. If it lights up then its the starter, if not, then then it could be the ignition switch or the wire from it.

take a 20p coin and bridge the bottom and middle terminal on the back of the starter enough to make it kick
then try starting it
and dont worry you wont get a shock

this post might be a little late....
but get some one to jump start you, if it switches on , then it could be that a few cells in the battery are dead. I had the same issue, got my battery tested and 2 cells were completely fried. put in a new one and everything was back to normal.

you should deffo try what i said if it happens again
on mine it seems like the solenoid is breaking down with heat
or it may be a flat spot on your starter

starter motors all in, started straight off the key (well it didnt work first time till i realised i hadnt connected the earth on the battery..........)
and it is a lot easier to do if you remove the inlet manifold etc - took about an hour all in and cost 66 quid for the motor - starts real nice now!
