After abit of looking around and some umming and arring, i decided to get myself a Convertible. Always wanted one and always wanted one with an Mtech 2 kit on. So on my way and looking all over Ebay, Autorader and Pistonheads, i found one. Not exacty what i wanted but i thought it was cheap and would be good to invest some money into it.

Its a 320i In Glacier Blue with 114k on the clock, MOT till June this year. Its got no service history and needs a little TLC.

Here are some pics:

As you can see, there some rust on the rear arches and the interior is abit worse for wear but its still quite tidy. The roof is beyond the point of repair so i managed to source a cheap replacement and i also got a replacement interior when i bought the car.

I will be spending some time on it next weekend trying to put it to a good standard before i decide what to do. I'm in 2 minds really, i do want to keep it as a little project but im thinking i want a facelift model, preferably a Design Edition. So i'm going to mess about with the car next and think long and hard about what i want to do.

Will let you know.

I decided to clean the soft top this morning as it's been sat in my car for the weekend i needed it out. And here it is:

Image

Very manky and full of wet moss. But it doesnt leak and looks decent enough, so scrub away:

Image

When i picked it up the guy did tell me that it had been stood for over a year but i wasnt expecting to wash and scrub 5 times just for it to look OK. Here are some pics but it still needs a good going over:

Image
Image

Although i am really happy as i thought it was black but its not, its blue, which will go on the car nicely. It must have held so must water and moss that it made it look black because i bought it off black car. any way

I cleaned the window with some Maguirs Plastx:

After

Its got some kind of residue or glue at the bottom of the window, any one know what it could be or how i could get it off?

The window lining has also got a tear on either side, anything to worry about?

Thats a nice looking car, i was watching it on ebay but bid on the Royal Blue one that was listed at the same time. Fortunately my hood is good but I need to do some work on the plastic window. Is the stuff you used any good, it's hard to tell from the photos.

Cheers, it is a nice looking car but in 2 minds what to do with it as i bought a shed yesterday which is a facelift so i dont know what to do know.

The Maguires stuff is good but you need to put a few applications on for it to work well.

Finally got down to doing some work on the car on the weekend. Wasnt the best start tho, went to go and pick the car up on friday night and forgot the keys to the car :o: So back to Manchester is was for me. On saturday morning went back up to Huddersfield to get the car, as soon as i got there and jump started the car, it had a flat which would blow up, good job Tesco petrol station was near by so i could get some Tyre Weld!! After some time messing around i managed to set off and it was not the best drive back to Manchester i have had. With the wind as strong as it was and heavy rain, the fooked soft top was not making the drive nice at all!! On top of all of that, the car was shaking and didnt feel safe at all. By the time i got back home, i was soaked and i need of a cup of tea!!

First port of call was Euro, wanted to flush the oil and coolant out so got the fluids and set off to my mates to get the wheels and balancing sorted. The wheel that was flat when i went to get the car had a big flat spot on the face of the wheel so, had that sorted in no time. The rest of the wheels were off balance pretty bad so glad i had that done, didnt have a chance to do the tracking but will do it some time in the week.

After that, back to base to change the roof and interior. I decided to take the interior out first as the rear seats needed to come out in order for me to get to the roof. As the roof had leaked for some time in the past, the front seats were solid on the rails, after abit of lub, they were free but the passenger side was abit of a bitch to sort.

Image
Image

With the new seats in:

Image

Managed to find some aftermarket sub wires and other little wires that i didnt know what they were for so left them to one side.

Image
Image

I got the roof off the off easily enough and had the new one fitted in an hour but trapped the cable underneath the frame which took me a while to figure out but it was impressed with myself.

Image
Image

The hood doesnt sit right tho so might have to take it off and take out some of the spacers. Here's how it looks:

Image
Image

I started to do a full service with putting the flush in and doing the spark plugs and air filter but i didnt need the plugs or air filter as they looked quite new, :) . The oil tho, was dirty as anything and looked like it needed changing!!!

Image

Changed the check panel:

Image

Yesterday, didnt really have much time but managed to put a stereo in and sort out the excess wiring. Got some sound through the rear speakers but in going to get some new front ones so i have full sound. Also got a working aerial too.

Unfortunately i do have a few more issues to sort out. The clocks need new batteries, the fog lights wont come on, there is something draining the battery down, need a few clips and blubs, the indicator stalk needs changing, the rad fan stays on all the time and the deadlock needs a refurb!! Hopefully get most of it sorted this week!!!

No, got 3 at the mo. Bought a Cab Design, same as E30Murphy with full M Tech grey leather and blue hood. So this one is up for sale due to the new car.

Before i knew i was putting it up for sale, i did some work over the weekend, some of it i felt that was needed as i had an inclination that the car was due to be put up for sale.

I bought some 5.25 InPhase 2 way speakers as they were cheap from the Car Audio Centre in Manchester, which sound alright:

Image

Managed to get the speaker grills back on:

Image

Was trying to find the fault for the battery drain, Brianmooooorrrreee said it could have been this relay:

Image

But after trying a new one, it wasnt the case and i got one of mates auto-electricians in and he said theres a sort between the relay and ecu so hes hoping to sort it out later in the week.

Been trying to replace the speedo batteries but have bought the wrong batteries 3 times, so now i've ordered the right ones and should be with me tomorrow.

Got the lock repair kit and replaced the old lock:

Image
Image

I can lock the car now!! But i cant turn the key to a 90 degree angle to activate the deadlocks??!!! But at least it locks now without me going to the boot! haha

After all of that i decided to give it a good vacuum and clean the carpet with Vanish:

Here are some pics of the car after a good clean:

Adit is sending me a wheel brace, jack, OBC indicator stalk and some other bits and bats, hopefully have it all done before the car is sold.

Good work - looks a lot better

The speakers are pretty good (had them in the past) and would sound a lot better with some Dynamat round them. BTW the audio shop, is it the one in Levenshulme ?

Cheers, if i was keeping it i would put some Dynamat down but will consider it for the new car.

I used the shop on Bury New Road, the one in Levenshulme is Safe & Sound i think. Been there for years.

good work mate, about the speakers, looks like they did fit fine in the footwell, you did not have to do any modifications? was it enough depth for them?

Fit straight in, but i had the one with the big magnet on the back first and i knew they wouldnt fit in!! So i went to get them refunded and they said i couldnt but they could give me the shallow version for the same price.
