When the ignition is switched on, can you hear the fuel pump running momentarily?

tbh i tried listening for it but dont hear anything, thing is the pump is pretty new because i bought of a fellow zoner lol :s?? the relay has been replaced not so long ago aswell.
Would it be possible that i may have burnt the motor out on the pump because i ran it dry??

Flexible fuel lines, under bonnet passenger side - remove from metal pipe (lower one i think)
Switch on ignition
Does fuel pour out?
