did any on toy with the idea of a mini supercharger?...

I think the 4 cyl guys have mentioned the mini as you can buy the complete kits from the Mini owners who have upgraded. Not sure how it would be easily done to the M20, there's a company in Canada that sells a bolt-on M20 kit for $2500 I think.

I made a suggestion of this a month or so back, but those in the know suggested the Eton blower from the cooper S would not flow enough even with a bigger pulley

I'm not trying to sound childish but 2 Etons off a Mini might, if you could fit them under the bonnet.but those in the know suggested the Eton blower from the cooper S would not flow enough even with a bigger pulley

apparently the m45 charger off of the cooper s is good for upto 13000l of air a minute....Andy_magic wrote:I'm not trying to sound childish but 2 Etons off a Mini might, if you could fit them under the bonnet.but those in the know suggested the Eton blower from the cooper S would not flow enough even with a bigger pulley
this means that on a m20b20 (assuming volumetric efficiency of 85%) you could run it at 2bar to get get a flow of 12894l a min at 7k rpm
on a m20b25 (assuming volumetric efficiency of 85%) you could run it at 1.6bar to get a flow of 12689l at 7k rpm
bot these pressures would produce a good increase in performance IMO

Liam, there's a few of us who want to do this on our 4pots. you'd proably be better with a bigger eaton for the 2.0 but eaton quote that charger as being good enough for a 2.0 so it really depends how much boost you want. Though I think you be better starting with a 2.5 due to the base economy difference (apparently the 2.5 is almost always as if not more fuel efficient - unless you're name is Neil
Anyway. Have a look at the thread in Engine Swaps / Forced Induction section at the Supercharge m42 thread. it's pretty long but there's some good info in there.
Incidentally eaton make bigger superchargerS than the minicooper one. iirc, the m65, m90 spec can be found on their website.
E46 M3 CSL but dreaming of another E30.
Smaller pulley would flow more.E30BeemerLad wrote:I made a suggestion of this a month or so back, but those in the know suggested the Eton blower from the cooper S would not flow enough even with a bigger pulley

all good! for instance my lil bro's 1.3 skoda, if fitted with an m45 can take 35psi (circa 4+ bar) at 7k

getting 2 bar from an eaton M45 would get you more heat than presurized air.
yeah that!!Sirnixalot wrote:getting 2 bar from an eaton M45 would get you more heat than presurized air.
mine was running proper hot that was only@ 12psi
you prob could get it glowing at 27psi

Neil, post me your spreadsheet too. Ta.
Also looking at a SC, but the mini-charger looked like too much hassle to get right. There are better options out there, supposidly. When I find the right I'll post the details.

'08 Buell XB12Ss - American engineering at it's 'best'... good fun though

the bloke i work with had one , he was going though hatfiled tunnal on th a1and the car in frount of him broke suddenly , so he did and 1 of the abs units on the front failed causeing him to crash in to the wall 3 times , the only thing that was left on the car to reckonise it was the frount wheel. he was lucky just to have broke his shoulder
And this is a result of the supercharger?ouch wrote:the bloke i work with had one , he was going though hatfiled tunnal on th a1and the car in frount of him broke suddenly , so he did and 1 of the abs units on the front failed causeing him to crash in to the wall 3 times , the only thing that was left on the car to reckonise it was the frount wheel. he was lucky just to have broke his shoulder
