1983 Capri 2000GL - an utter minter I bought from the sales for 300 quid in 1997 and sold for 1200 quid 3 weeks later. It was a 2 owner car with full Ford SH and had been fitted with new wings and painted a year before it was traded in. Bloody awful thing to drive.

I don't have any pics before I had a digital. My first car (a bit tenuous this) was in a 1974 when I was 6. A friend of my Mum had a 1962/3 Austin Mini sat in their garden -

Ah now,I must be getting old,I'd forgetten something and this reminded me!
I was -1 in 1974 and had to wait until,A) I was born, and B) until I was 16 to get my first Mini,this was also a "sat in neighbours garden" car.
I got it for free,it was originally bought new from the John Cooper garage down Sussex way I believe and still had the original tax disc holder.
It was a W reg and only had the one owner and 39k on the clock but was rusted out.The engine was absolutley silent on tick over,it was like new.
I put the wheels on back to front for that Cooper reverse rims look,cut the exhaust back to the down pipes for that racey sound and used to tear up and down the road outside my house when the local shoot was on to p1ss them off.
I still have the number plates for it as my bitch ex stepmother telephoned the scrap man to collect it when I wasn't there I went to the yard and prized the plates off it!

Nothing worth posting pictures of and I don't have them anyway. Couple that with the fact I can't post pictures off my iPhone. First motor was a micra K10 that my mate gave to me. Had a knackered alternator but only 80k on the plate. Was also a better spec but dead micra k10 in his garage where mine was kept which was raped for parts including a new and undented front bumper, White grill rather than black one and various other little odds and sods.

Then had a rover 214si in champagne gold. My mates use to say it was a geography teachers car but 105bhp and cracking mpg as wrll from a twin cam 1.4 I was having the last laugh. Saw me through 30,000 miles in little over a year with only a knackered alternator to tell for it! Next up was my e30 which was my 21st birthday present to myself. I miss e30s but not really that one. I'm on a 525 e34 ATM that I want to get shot of as my old man has offered me his dirty6 for a knock down price but mine has to be sold first.

Andy, That Scopio is a dead ringer for mine (although I couldn't resist going exec and upgrading to the 15's). I bet you wish you'd kept that Cooper S. My first car was a Mini.

I don't have any shots of it but was as follows

1966 mini Super Deluxe in OEW with originally red trim. I was given it as a rotton write off at 16.

We fitted new wings (it quickly needed another one once I'd passed my test ), front panel, sills, A panels, bootlid, rear valance, door skins and battery box You just wouldn't bother these days would you? However, this is how you learnt back in 80-81!! We spayed it Ford diamond white (as we had a couple of litres on the shelf), fitted a black vinyl roof and cooper reverse rims. I had a set of original Lucas rectangular fogs on the front, syndym screen and roof aerial. Inside out with the red, in with the black with a set of cobra cloth recliners, 1275GT rear seat and a Rookee wood dash. Motorist Discount Centre (remember them) centre console and a 4 speaker ICE install. Moto Lita 13" steering wheel completed the look.

The old 850 burnt more oil than petrol and it'd jump out of 1st gear as you backed off. So I bought a 1972 Mini 1000 which donated the engine. That was rebuilt with a little tuning work from the David Vizard tuning manual and a 1.5" SU and LCB. Gearbox was a close ratio cooper. It also deleted the original magic wand gear lever. I thought it was the shizzle.

I must have some photos somewhere!

Motorists Discount Centre were still trading up too at least 1999 as I bought twin Cherry Bomb exhausts from them for the white 325 I pictured.

MDC did struggle on in some areas but I remember the branch in Dorking shutting down. Worcester Park (my local) was my second home and when it shut the manager (who we got to know quite well) moved to the Dorking branch. I got the call that they'd gone broke. so we whipped over there and helped clear the place for pence. We said "how much?" He said a stupid price and we filled the cars!!!! We were even in the stock room upstairs sifting through.

It's nice when things like that happen,all be it a rare occurance. Some years ago,when fuel was around 90p/litre the petrol station down the road was closing down and they had the price at something like 35p/litre to clear out! I went home to collect all my military fuel tanks and returned to the garage for a big fuel up,managed to drain the tanks on my pump. I paid 90 quid for all the fuel I bought. Felt like Christmas day!

Minis were a phase everyone went through in the seventies/eighties. Most of us grew out of it very quickly! I was given a very rusty one in 1981, a black Morris EPR165D. Once it was back home though, it was pronounced too rusty so it bit the dust - it was free though. According to DVLA though, it's still on the road.....
It was, according to the records at Gaydon, a factory black car which is one of only 6 made.
My Mum's first car was a Mini of around 1960/1 vintage. My Dad 'did it up (remember that phrase) around 1972. The car was about 30 quid and he got a mate who worked at the local BLMC dealer to paint it red/white, drop in an MG1100 engine which it was converted to twin leading shoe drums and given a set of new Cosmic wheels. I can still picture it.
In the mid eighties I built a similar one from a perfectly rust free 1959 shell but I added Cooper badges and grille - I was such a blade.
Back then though Minis were everywhere and could be bought for next to nothing. You'd build it yourself from bits you got from the scrapyard, paint it yourself (I was doing a VAG apprenticeship so it was done in an oven for 40 quid cash....) and it was a car you bought before something better came along. The Mini scene now is just too weird.

The Cooper S was alright, but I never regret selling a car. There's nothing I've sold that I think 'I wish I'd kept that' although some of it would be worth a fair bit now. The Sport Evo and CSL would have been good coin masters!

Now you see Andy, I do regret selling some. I get all nostalgic over some and if I have to name the one car I most regret selling? It would be that Mk1 3.0 Ghia Granada. It just looked the tits. Drove fantastic. Had sub 60k up and I loved it. Okay, they didn't have the spec available that some of the mk2's could get such as in electric windows, ac, electric seats / roof, trip computers etc. but there was something about the Mk1's IMO. In fact last night I was on the website below trawling

The only car I regret selling is my Landrover,I don't know why as it was rusty,slow,smelly etc etc but it had character,not to mention was great fun with the roof off,and tacking the muddy stuff over Salisbury Plains.

The only thing i've kept is my FS1E,this'll never be sold.

LYN 422D was the plate. I will try to find some pictures. I know I have one pic of it parked on the forecourt of Forge Garage in Worcester Park where I used to work.

My first car, got it xmas eve 1991, £690, 1983 Y reg Opel Kadett 1.6SR, thought I was the bolleau with my recaro seats, rev counter & the GM Dealersport stripes. £350 TPFT for first insurance, good times.



My second car, 1100cc Mini, paid £350 for it, totally bone stock, did the obligatory cooper rip off with a can of smoothrite, 10" mambas, Peco Powermaster 4" oval centre exit rear box etc. Radius arm bushes were fubar so it had 4 wheel steer

I bought one of those from Witney Car Auctions in 1988, PRL8Y iirc. It was black like that one and was utterly mint. I was after an XR3i as a nice daily, but I went to the sales twice a week and I spotted this and gave £2900 for it.

mate of mine goes weds to pick up his 550bhp rs500 block engine for his 3 door cosworth, car stands him at 20k odd and had a full resto , a specialist has had the engine a stupid amount of time, n some £7500 been spent on it , frightening, cant wait to go in it in the spring

Honestly can't remember Trev. They were all white when I got them and used nitromorse on them which revealed the original black with polished lips underneath. They were shod with 4 of Colway's finest remoulds

Yeah it was a backwards step, a couple of mates had minis and they were such awesome fun that I could not resist.

The mini was a private sale from Redcar way. I did look at one in poo brown at Big Mikes in Stockton once, but it appeared to be lacking any front footwells

The Kadett was a private sale too, kid had it advertised for £1200, by the time the old man had finished abusing him and picking faults, we walked away with it for £690.

Changed a little after I'd finished with it (and still wonder why I ever sold it )

A friend of mine owns this Mexico and another Mk1 which is getting a 2ltr zetec and many other tasty bits.

Olympic blue and 7 inch rs four spokes - lovely mix and still got the original interior which is always a winner!

Zetec are a top engine, I ran one for a bit, although it was an 1800. Ran on 45 dcoe's, piper cams and the one and only Ron Harris worked his magic on the head.

Adam (the escy owner) know the Harris's quite well and i think they have had a hand in the zetec.

The mexico runs a 1760 X flow on twin DCOE's but not sure if they are 40's or 45's.
