New E30 owner

Hi Everyone - Newbie.

Have now got E30 325i 1986 - one of the first models I believe. No ABS or any fancied like that.
In good nick has been in my family since new - I'm only the secound owner and just done over 100k.
Engine a bit noisy - think it's a broken bolt on exhaust manifold - is this a difficyult job.
Will get camera out and post a piccy.

exhaust studs can be a bitch, depending on which one it is too, if it's the one near the bulkhead, it could be a head off job to get to it properly, but I'm not 100% on that. Plus it won't be the only one that will break when you take the manifold off, so be ready for some fun.

Sounds like you have a nice genuine unmolested example there though, chrome bumpered rightness

Hello Grimo, welcome to the best BM forum (never mind best E30 forum)!

As for your exhaust manifold bolts... yip, about half of 'em snapped when I changed to my 6-branch. I also ended up getting the heads re-furb'd and it wasn't just the exhaust bolts that needed replacing... be ready for some fun!

On the bright side, sounds like the perfect opportunity to upgrade to a 6-branch... luvlly!

apologies for the hijack here, Gary - how different did it feel with the 6-branch put on?

Got one waiting to go on at the moment but need to so some head surgery before I bolt this on and wreck the thing!

if you put the 6 brancnch on driving the car in the high revs is pretty damn good - provided you dont have any restriction after the 6 branch you are in for a really nice suprise -

if you ever ever ever even think of changing an exhaust manifold that has not been changed in a while then buy a new set of manifold studs and use the two nut trick to get of the old studs nice and easy (this method will cut the job time by hours)
