Hi,
I beleive that Ian 332i has done this conversion and a few others are either working on it, or just starting.
My question / problem is this, if Ian, or any of the other's can help,
We have taken the 'Tacho' pluse from the ECU into the 'Dakota' electronics converter, which is emitting a converted pluse, which should be compatiable with the Tach /Rev counter dial, in the E30 dash binnacle.
However we can not get the Tacho to respond to the pluse from the Dakota Pluse converter.
The pluse that comes direct from the E36 ECU for the Tacho is also non compatiable with the E30 Tacho / Rev counter.
We have fired the different Pluses into the Rev Counter, but with no joy.
We suspect that our problem is that the American Dash Binnacle and its Clocks that we have, are in some way different to a UK or Euro set up.
The Dash binnacle and clocks are from an American M3 E30, which had the 160 mph speedo and a 8000 rpm rev counter with the Oil Temp Guage at the bottom.
Can anyone assist or help by explaining what they have done in order to make the E30 Rev counter work, when the signal/ Pluse is being taken from a E36 S52 Evo ECU ?
Any assistance gladly received !!!!!
Regards,
The Gorilla.

Hi,
Thanks M-dtech, but sorted.
We have now resolved the problem.
Basically we have had 3 faulty Dash pods and the forth one has just burst into life, so we are taking the modules from this one to make the original pods work.

Hi,
Trying to post some pictures, but everytime they are loaded the Webpage just crashes.
While computers are not my strong point, Is there any reason for this ?, not allowed to post pics?, or the fact that I load pics from a Mac?
Any pointers ?

I use Imageshack.

Simply browse to the pictures on your computer, and then click upload.
Once uploaded, just post the link on here.

I had used imageshack for a while and often found it crashed out at the end of uploading a pic
try www.photobucket.com
have found this much more reliable and the pics are automatically resized for you so they can be viewed on the zone without having to scroll across to the right all the time
Hope that helps fella

tylerma,
can i get some more pix or info on your exhaust manifold. What did you have to do to get it to fit. It looks like the front half went in fine but the rear manifold's rear most runner needed modifying.
Also what steering rack are you running? If its the E30...does it look like there is enough clearance for the e36?
sorry for all the questions but im really interested in using those headers on my future M50 swap.

i was just hostiing the pictures for GermanGorilla
he is the man you want to speak to
The front section wont fit straight in because the E30 subframe gets in the way and with the E36 rack fitted, which moves the steering joint closer to the engine, it needs tweaking slightly to clear that as well.Sirnixalot wrote:What did you have to do to get it to fit. Using the E30 rack will probably make things a bit easier.
You can see in the pic the welding work thats been done on the No.6 pipe and No.4 looks very close to the splines on the rack, although that could be down to the angle of the photo.
