One for a real zone/alpina beard here.
Just had one of these fine chariots come my way, switchtronic sadly but intrigued to see how that goes. Anyway, I need some paint to do a wing mirror plastic. Not a simple task, I fear! The car, to my understanding, is Alpina Blue I, the spec sheet has 'special paint - alpina blue metallic' on it, the turret has an alpina label with 'drunkelsapphirblau metallic' on it, and the parts guy at sytners reckons dark sapphire blue is a standard BMW colour. I don't, I thought the BMW colour was Sapphire blue (no dark), and had always thought that Alpina Blue was a special colour, for Alpinas. The dude also asked me for the BMW chassis number, and again I thought Alpina etched out the BMW chassis number and added the Alpina VIN plate, so think he may not be the most clued up on Alpinas, even though Matthew Stripling pointed me in his direction. So come on then anoraks, what's the answer? Oh and he also didn't answer on whether e36 'pina centre caps are NLA - anyone on here know?
Cheers
Tim

being a 3.0 it should be built at buchloe no sytner wrongness so it should have the original VIN stamped with an X through it and the new Alpina vin stamped close by?
I remember looking at a colour chips in the paintshop when my 2 door was in the body shop. It was pina blue which is sapphire blue, i'm not 100% on that. Barry knows. IIRC theres about 4 shades of alpina blue also
i doubt the caps are NLA, e30 ones aren't and alpina are pretty good when it comes to wheels and spoilers being available.

Sapphire blue (149 Saphirblau Sapphire Blue Metallic Blue 51 91 1 880 839) and Alpina blue are two different colours.
Alpina blue or green will have "Sonderlack" on the paint code label.
91473610053 is for a complete cap
91473613609 is for a bare cap

Tim,
My B10 has the dunkelsaphireblaumettallic sticker on on the bonnet.
It is available from Germany in touch up bottles with applicater brush included @ £14/small bottle.
BTW the parts guy is, in this case, most likely correct.
The Scottish Alpina dealer mentioned that he'd have to double check with Germany as it most likely wouldn't be as simple as giving me the sapphire blue kit he had in stock.
It transpired that he was indeed correct. It's a different paint code.
Any "normal" Non Sytners dealer can get it for you. You'll need to supply the BMW chassis number and the Alpina chassis number along with model and build numbe(from the build plaque) so records can be checked to ensure you get the correct paint mix.
If your after more than a touch up kit, then IIRC the Alpina register has/had a link to the Standox website which gave the paint code and paint mix details.
E36 17"? centre caps should still be available via a 3-4 week wait from Germany and expect to pay about £95 each for a complate cap. You can also order each part of the cap individually.
17" caps do crop up on ebay occasionally and you may wish to keep a lookout on the Alpina register as well.

Amazing that a thread on here can yield this information in this time, yet speaking to Alpina UK itself can't. imo a brilliant demonstration of why this place, despite all the BS etc that goes on, is still an amazing source of information and the contribution that you guys make on here. Thanks
fwiw the paint code label has "sonderla---erung" on it - can't make it out as the label's a bit worn. Not sure what I'll do on the centre caps, whether to wait or just buy new. I probably won't keep them on the car, I prefer the look without the caps, same as with BBSs!

How much?! I've got a set of 8"&9" E36 wheels that are in need of a refurb (a bit OTT for a 318i - suspect I'll keep the winter wheels on) - the above makes me think I should sell the caps separately!BadDave wrote:E36 17"? centre caps should still be available via a 3-4 week wait from Germany and expect to pay about £95 each for a complate cap. E30 in need of wiring loom smoke since April '11...

The 17" ones may be slightly cheaper, but I doubt it.

Sonderlackierung means special paint. That'll be Alpina blue.
