battery light staying on

my brother has just swaped his nackerd m52 starts and runs but battery light stays on even with ignition off.any sugestions welcome thanks jim

Sounds like the alternator.

Is the alternator charging wire connected properly?

The battery warning light comes on when there is 12 volts on one side of it, and 0 volts on the other. It will be off when there is 0 volts on both sides of it, or 12 volts on both sides of it.
The first checks needed are to take a voltmeter, earth the black lead, and use the red probe to determine which side of the light has the 12 volts on it, both with the engine running and the ignition off.
