There are lots of chavs out there that can afford an E30 M3 seeing as a lot of chavs make their money from selling crack, cocaine and heroin which from what I hear are all well paid jobs.

Fact is everybody who’s everybody recognises the BMW badge as being one of the following Cool, Fast, Quality, Bling etc etc all of which your common garden chav aspires to and seeing as decent BMW’s can be had for penny’s these days the chavs are snapping em up. For those few lucky chavs who have sold enough bags of crack that month they may well venture in to E30 M3 territory.

What a load of bollocks..

They might be able to afford one, but the M3 doesn't have the image they want..

They are all tooling about in E46 M3 Convertibles, and stupid 4x4's with bling rims

Some folk seem to have missed the fact that the valuations were given in a 2002 copy of the magazine. I imagine that if they were to value them now, you'd be looking at a few shekels more. . . .

Chavvy is the wrong word, but I know what they are trying to say.

In Jersey, we'd call em rude-boys. A mildly matured version of a boy racer, youngish lads with their hip-hop style clothing who do nothing but burn around in cars that are surely out of their price range. They like fast cars, turbos seem like a must for most, with expensive alloys and lowered.

The kind of people who worship stuff like performance ford/vw/bmw mags, but actually have no idea about real tuning or performance set up. They swear that BBS alloys means their car is faster.

Either way, when I get the money, an M3 will be mine.

C&SC is still quite good, but it varies month to month - one issue will be really good, another will be some sort of wankfest with Alain De Cadanet and Mick Walsh duelling in a name dropping competition. Buckley is a miserable Sod but sometimes says what needs to be said.
The M3 comment is a little wide of the mark - if anything it's been a Sparco Cock chariot more than anything else.

In the interests of fairness, the 'bit chavvy' comment was made in the context of the E30 M3 being a great track car and I like Buckley's stuff a lot. Any 'barges' or eighties stuff in the mag will invariably be covered by him. And he is a BM fan who has written books on them.

Also, in fairness, they did an E30 M3 buyer's guide last year with updated prices, highlighting how much they are now sought after and an M3 v 190E 2.5 - 16 showdown last June where the BM hammered the Merc (and they valued an M3 'from £10,000'). Just to be fair.

My gripe regards the chavvy comment and the general ignorance of the E30 except the M3. I think a mint 325i or an iS or original convertible is a bona fide classic, certainly as much as an MX-5 or an MGF or some of the other newer stuff that has featured recently.

Yes, they're rubbish but the the thing is, they have MG clubs and specialists advertising and there are only so many times they can feature MGB's. Once every 10 years would be enough - rusty, shit, and nasty to drive.
I don't get MX5's in classic mags either. I know they drive well but they're just so utterly bland and uninteresting. There are also millions of the bastards on the road.
It's a good mag though and well worth £4.50.

If you think there valuation is a little bit short, try doing the valuation through "We buy any car".

I did the other day after a few beers for some light entertainment (what a life I live)

My car is E30 325i Sport Mtec I

And the price offered to buy my car

£50 8O

hmmm no thanks maybe that was just for the tech 1 sterring wheel

The quote £50 for any E30 afaik. I guess that they don't bother with specific models after 10 years or so.

To the general public, looking at an E30 M3, with the idea of what a 'classic' car is, the M3 is kinda chavvy. There have been many zoners here that have mentioned random people offering £3K for their M3s or been asked why they had the old version and not gone for an E36/E46.

The E30 voodoo/vibe/tribe/following etc is not shared by everyone but once you 'get it' they are cool as fook. I've had all kinds of people stop me from older people to younger media girly types to pay respect to the car. Even had notes on the screen with offers to buy over the years. I am sure this is because it's clean and original. Takes a certain kind of person with taste to see them for what they are.

What I hear most is 'Best ever 3-Series' or 'Best looking BMW ever.'

The endless molested versions haven't helped accelerate this though and the Sport suffers badly from this, the average joe thinks it's a kitted up chav mobile. Too many bad reps, or other Sports with weird wheels or just that horrible rear spoiler - who knows. The Sport Cabrio is even worse in that regard.

Top Gears' Sport Evo episode on the Isle of Man straightened things out a bit for the M3 tho and it is still without doubt one of the coolest and most unique looking cars of any decade from any category.

It's looks were not styled and could only have been born of Motorsport requirements and that;s why it looks so awesome.

Like the Alfa SZ100 - another of my 'ugly/pretty but awesome' faves.

Well said mate. The same could be said for the Integrale, Audi Quattro and the Merc 190e Cosworth. Non of them could be considered pretty but they still look great today and will do in another 25 years time.

There's something very awesome about the M3. One came up behind me on the M6 and flashed me. I pulled over when I could have just thought "cock" and beaten him in a straight line.... He probably thought I was giving him the evil eye when I was looking over but if he had looked all he would have seen was a big grin!
