Anyone got any knowledge/experience of these?
Always fancied the Z3 & Z4 MCoupes but i'm considering the 3.0 Z4 as a far more realistic alternative. I do a 70mile commute everyday so the fuel economy looks to be a big saving compared to the M and with the engine being just normal BMW lump parts and servicing should be a lot cheaper, plus the insurance for the M is a third more over the 3.0.
Been and test driven one today at a local car supermarket and really liked the way it drove and i don't think in the real world the extra power from the MCoupe would really be used much by myself, the 3.0 felt plenty quick enough for my talents.
Any advice would be great!
Cheers
Dave

A 3.0 Z4 is a fine chariot and is based on an E46 so has similar wear and tear items they suffer from. Early ones use the M54B30 and later ones use the N52B30 and the later engine will be better for fuel economy.
Rear springs
Control arm bushes
Outer ball joints
The odd electric power steering problem
Electric window regulator
Cam and crank sensors (M54 engine)
Intake air leaks (M54 engine)
Cracked alloys
are a few common probs to look out for. And accident damage

Cheers Barry.
What year did they change engines?
All in all a fairly reliable motor then, i imagine only the PAS and window regs being that costly to sort out. The alloys not very good quality or is it just a case of low profile tyres and shite UK roads?

Low profile run flats on 18" wheels.
2005 was the change over IIRC with the advent of the E90.
Yes they are fairly reliable and a hoot to drive.
Oh and the N52 kicks out 265bhp as opposed to the M54's 321bhp.
Oh and just remembered, coils and injectors are quite common on all N5x engines.
