So, another couple of quick questions...

I plan on using the m40 box + prop for my conversion, so i'm wondering what diff ratio would be good, i'd be inclined more towards acceleration than top end speed, however it needs to be useable on motorways. I can get a 3.91 at a good price, would that be ok or too short?

Next up is the electric fan - is there one that most people prefer to use for m50 conversions?

And there was another question i wanted to ask but that useless lump in my head i call a brain has forgotten it so i'll have to come back later with that one

Thanks in advance :D

If your using the m40 box i think you need to use 320 prop and gear linkage.
3.64 seems to be the diff to use for the best town and motorway driving.

Just started doing the conversion myself so advice from a more experienced zoner maybe better.

That was what i'd originally planned on doing, however i believe i read in another thread about a week ago that it's possible to use the m40 prop instead?

With the m40 box you can use the 318 prop or the 320 prop mate...

M42 box is 325 prop minus vibration damper, for anyone else looking in on this :)

Yeah, as i thought, so i'll be keeping my current box/prop to save a small bit of hassle :)

3.64 ratio seems to be the best for an all rounder mate although if you plan to use a 3.91 it would be rapid off the line but suffer a little at motorway speeds.
3.64 will do about 75mph to 3000rpm

I've used an e34 aircon fan for my conversion and its right up to the job :)

Don't suppose anyone's able to tell me roughly what revs i'd hit whilst doing 60mph if i used the 3.91?

What ratio is a standard 316 diff?

My setup at the moment is m42 box-325 prop and hooked up to my 320 dif (4.1 I think) and its the same here! Insane off the mark mate but as above, I wouldn't wanna drive it to far up the motorway!!
Hooked it up to that dif so the car can move under her own steam as there seems to be no 3.64's out there at the mo, but as soon as a 3.64 or 3.73 lsd comes up I will be swaping it over :D

3.91 at that speed would be around the 3000rpm mark the same as a 3.64 would be at 75mph

Ah sure, that's alright by me, i don't tend to go to much past 60mph anyway (it's in kph over here..), but when i do it's only to 120kph.
If it does end up being to much of an annoyance i'll get a 3.73 to replace it with :)

Cheers for the info lads :D
