I like the supra turbo engines myself.... Come standard with plenty of power and are very tuneable for massive power...

But the m50 engines with a turbo are a weapon too.... Gunni on here builds them

Enjoy

ive got a vauxhall turbo in my e30, using stanard ecu, omega box ect, cant see why some people go to the massive expense of building a turbo engine that never was in the first place, as their is so many turbo engines out their just my penys worth. with the c20let engine i have no problems with the exhaust getting in the way of steering uj, its all good.

Have you any pics of the conversion? I've always thought that it'd make a cracking conversion... What does it drive like, not too laggy?

dont make me laugh, i can think of 10 engines off the top of my head that offer more bang for buck than the cossie engine,

an e30 bay will take pretty much anything, firstly whats your budget, as that makes all the difference, anything with a turbo will cost 50% more for a build than na (home budget build)

one of the best things you can do is bang a turbo on the stock engine, as has been proved over and over a 350hp m20 needs a set of arp bolt and a turbo to feed it, a 450hp m50 will work with nothing more than an m20 needs.

better engines than the cossie for similar money:
skyline engine will fit rb25 or 26 both have been done, as will the supra 1 or 2jz.
the 300zx engines a peach an the e30 should swallow a v6 without braking a sweat.
the m30 likes a bit of boost.
subaru 2l will go but its a bit tricky to get the chassis leg clearance, rwd is easy on them.
a rotary shouldnt be too much trouble.
the 3l twin turbo diesel bmw engine or the 3l petrol engine would make an e30 literally fly.
an sr20 or ca18 has been done.
m10 turbo is a classic choice.
hell even the mitsu 3000gt engine or the 4 pot mk1 supra lump would be a better call.

now dont get me wrong, theres nothing wrong with the cossie engine, but prices are creeping up, theres a hell of a lot of abused scrap out there + parts are rising rapidly (when its commercially viable to cnc mill the entire combustion chamber back on skimmed heads to make them usable again its time to start playing with another engine), most of the engines above can do 400hp for less than a cossie engine making the same and they tend to come with a drive line that will last (rather than type 9/t5 crap).

if you want to go turbo one of the best routes is to turbo charge the m20, if you have a facelift car then you already have one of the toughest, mid capacity, low comp, det resistant engines you can get your hands on.

the m20 b20 always struck me as a good base for a turbo conversion

a b20 should take a good bit, but a 2.7 will still have the 731 head and be a little more crack resistant, or a 323 block, a 323 block turbocharged could be fun.

In terms of driveablility, not outright bhp the bore / stroke would result in a nicer drive I reckon. Obviously it needs head work, but it'd be worthwhile doing it.. the b20 is just crying out for more horses. Lovely revvy motor & a lower CR to start with..

well in terms of spool up the turbo would work better on a 320 than on a 4 pot 2l, as the flow comes closer to constant than the pulsing of a 4 banger.

whats the stroke on a b20? (never questioned it)

small capacity turbo engines are the future boys, as off boost they still behave like slightly restricted small engines so do well on the NEDC and then when you get your foot down a bit and into the boost they start to work like a champ.

250hp 1.6 i or v 6 engine anyone?

Good stuff, do you get on a site called vauxsport? They'd love your car on there... Mind you they'd be telling you to wring 400+ out of the engine. Some big power ones on there!
