New project m52 touring

That would be class Nick.
The touring is on standard suspension and i dont think i'll be changing the ride height on this one.
Are you making your own?Did Ritchie have bits to do the job?

yeh i'm planning on making my own with a remote cooler, relatively expensive but as i'm unlikely to sell the car it won't matter.

just at the research stage ATM and having difficulty finding the pump and rack connection sizes.

if you are going for standardish ride height it shouldn't be a problem and the only reason the cooler is low is because of the distance between the sump bowl and the subframe. i suspect if you are using engine mounts that others have used from other BMW's you may well have more room to tuck it up higher. i also perhaps used the front mounting holes for the rack although i can't remember just now.

I'm using two e28 m5 hockey puck mounts .
iirc did you bend your without using a vice over your knee and how did you manage the one that needs twisted (if that makes sence.)

yeh i bent it all over my knee, plenty of practice at work and it was much easier than 15/22 copper as you will well know, i'm sure you have done that a few times.

i only made/adjusted four bends, the high pressure line round the back needed three and the return line needed one and a cable tie

iirc the high pressure one would have needed twisting slightly to make the angle of the pump, i got away with it due to it having two rubber pipes joined by a metal section so i just bent the metal section i think. that probably doesn't make sense but it would if you could see it in front of you.

Another wee bit done today.

The manual pedal box is in c/w new master cylinder.

3 pedals are better the 2 imo of course.

Today the m52 was pulled out the E36.

We have removed the inlet as a 325 one is being fitted.
Have a couple of question if anyone can help.

First what does this do and is it needed?(black cylinder with a vacuum either side )

Second,Does this get done away with when i fit the 325 inlet as one hose gets blanked and the other goes to the 325 throttle body boot?

Another wee update

All the brake hose are now s/s.The wishbones have be changed for new ones and i have fitted powerflex lower wishbone bushes.Also have the e36 rack bolted in just the hoses to sort on that.

The loom on its way to Dan and i'm still waiting on two parcels from bmminiparts so i can finish the engine off.

Oh and the m20 flywheel is in for a lightening.

jake, my finger will be out this week. going to measure and order for my custom pipes this week hopefully. pipes are still yours if you need them, although i'm not sure when they will be out of the car for good.

These are the specs I had made up for M52 with E36 rack

Pipe 1 ”“ High pressure - 1 metre of steel braid nylon hose, M16 banjo connector at one end (rack end) , M16 banjo connector at the other end (pump end) 90 degree offset on the banjos.

Pipe 2 ”“ Low pressure (return hose) ”“ 1 x M14 banjo into 200mm of 3/8”a rubber hose, then stepped up to a”a hose for 1 metre.

The place I got my pipes made up are in Doncaster and it cost me £60 for them, but they will take a few days to do them and post. This is their number 01302 746 969 and ask for Paul. They can take paypal.

EDIT - THE SPECS OF THE ABOVE PIPES ARE WRONG

why was this necessary? i'll be putting an m40 box on my m50 that had an e30 325i box on it from a previous conversion.i'm not sure if the spigot bearing was changed or not

2 different sizes, 12mm and 15mm, just measure it innit

My order from bmminiparts still hasnt arrived

and its getting to the point of holding me up as its gaskets for the engine.
If they dont turn up tomorrow Toby is going to re-order them.

Did get an hour at it this evening and got the e34 throttle cable in,the front droplinks on and the clio sevo on and the master cylinder re connected.I'll have to adjust the brake bar to get everything lined up so i can connect the servo via the pin.

Dan has informed me the looms are ready to send .(Super quick turn around

)

Just hope the parts arrive soon so i can get the engine and box dropped in.

Parts arrived so today i got a bit done but not much.

E36 sump is off but two bolts snapped and are proving to be a C**t to remove.
Water pump is fitted and a changed the 80amp altenator for a 525 140amp one.

If all goes well removing the snapped bolts tomorrow i'm hoping to have the engine ready to drop in.

Did you fit an 88° stat and alloy housing BTW?

I have fitted the alloy housing with a 80° stat(will that be ok?)
Fitted the bigger altenator because it was there and incase i want to fit some ice in the future.

Yeah will be fine, TBH the 90 amp is used on E36's that have plenty more electrics going on than most E30's
I take it you have the M50 oil filter housing then as the M52 alternator isnt interchangeable with the M50, must be a 95 328i?

My oil filter housing is a plastic one .The e36 was an early 96 car iirc.
The altenator was from an 93 e34 525 touring and bolt right on.
I did have to use the bottom bolt and nut from the e34 to secure the bottom of the altenator.

Wee update

The engine is sitting ready to drop in.
Going to wait until i have the E36 pas pipes fitted i have coming from Dan before i drop it in.
Also fitted a set of powerflex front arb bushes.
What a crap job that was i thought it was going to be easy

Mocked up the loom cover and the sparco strut brace today to see if it would work .
Also fitted Dans fan loom

Mocked up the rad tonight and extended the coolant level sensor.

While i was mucking about with wires i had a go at the wires that needed doing since i an going from auto to manual.

First were the wires behind the glove box.

Unplugged the blacks and connected the green/black together

Which left me with these 2 plugs

This pic is at the gear stick and as for as i can see i just need to unplug the 2 pin plug and connect my reverse switch into the plug thats left.

Can someone confirm what i have done is right please.
