Isn't it detachable from the loom ? As there are a lot of big multi plugs in the passenger footwell/behind the dash from the fuse box ?
I've not looked at it properly, it's only a guess.

replaced the loom ages ago on my old 320i, and recently on my 325i

Have to replace the loom from the front right of the car all the way around to the rear right.
Sockets behind the glovebox are the accessories socket, and a socket for one of the looms across the dashboard.
It is theoreticaly possible to just change the fusebox, but you would have to remove a few dozen push in terminals, which are designed to snap into place easily, but not really meant to be removed for reuse.
Why would you want to change it, anyway?

You can get the terminals out of the fusebox by uncliping the black stripps along the edges of the fuse's. Then individually pulling out each wire by inserting a tiny screwdriver from the top to release the retaining spring as i found out when installing a few extra wires.
You will end up in a right mess as it's a tight fit inside and it's probably easier to change the loom so you don't mix all the wires up.

There is NO nucleus.
