hi, just though i'd post this up as its news to me and ive had some trouble insuring my second car.

Story starts that i bought a 06 mondeo estate for transporting the dog about in and rang up to insure it yesterday.

Ive got full NCB and that is on the E30 but as its not used due to the e30 being on a classic poicy i wanted to move it from the e30 poicy on to the mondeos.

So told the direct line lady my NCB would be coming from my other car, to which she said i couldn't use the NCB on two cars which i new and explained that it wasnt being used on the classic policy. Que the.... sorry sir we cant exepct NCB from a classic policy?

I asked why and she said thats how it works now, so i explained that before the e30, NCB had been built up on new cars but accourding to her they just go on the last policy and if the last one was a classic one then its tuff luck..

i did asked to be put through to customer services and after about an hour of arguing they said that as i had been a customer with them before and ernt 3 years with them they would honour the full NCB but it wasn't looking very good for minute... :x

I hate insurance :x

Has anybody else had this happen? seams crazy, what if you had a e30 cab for summer and a new L200 or somthing for winter you'd be swopping insurance and not beable to ern NCB.. :(

Since I took a company car I transferred my NCB (13yrs) to the classic policy to keep it live - Is this just a Direct Line thing or wider?

I have 3 classic car policies and a main car policy, I don't generate any NCB on the classic policies.

Dont know if its just directline but i presume they are all govourned by the same rules??

I only put the NCB on the E30 policy to keep it live or i would have lost it, as i have a company van and can use the missus car so i dont have any other "new" car policy i could transfer them to. :?

Kieran i'm not cross because i can't ern NCB on the classic what it means is say for the sake of argument you sold your "new" car and bought a classic for a few months to get you by before you by another "new" car, when you want to use your NCB even though you had built it up on a "new" car policy, beacuse you insured a classic just for a few months to get you by they would not except the NCB back, just because you'd used it on a classic policy....

Have you still got a copy of the NCD you sent to the classic insurance company? if you have just send direct line that and clear the NCD of the classic car policy. So its not from a classic policy

I've had classic insurance policies on my lancia, from my understanding you can't use no claims bonus on your classic policy nor can you acrue any no claims bonus on it.
So your normal policy should pick up your no claims from where it stopped on a previous normal policy. Although I understand that there may be a two year time limit(?) from last normal policy, which means that if you don't insure on a normal policy within the specified time you lose your no claims! Daft, crazy, hard to work out I know but we get lumped with it!! :x

On most classic policies you do not earn NCB.

If you have had the classic policy for less than 2 years then you still hold NCB and if this is not being used on the classic policy (you should check this) then it will be free to use on your Mundaneo.

thats what i thought...i earnt 1 ncb on another car, then got my e30, and they gave me a decent price on classic even tho i had only been driving a year and its normaly min of 2 years for a classic, but coz i was 31 years old they sorted me out, couldnt use the ncb on the classic policy...so i dont see how you can add a ncb to a classic policy and not use it

they also mentioned i dont earn ncb on the classic, but when it comes to renewal theyl discount it if no claim anyway

just insure with the ncb forgetting about the classic policy and dont mention that

i didnt know about the 2 year ncb limit, so il just loose that ? spose if im always to have a classic anyway theres no need to worry too much or anythign i can do anyway

I too was under the impression that classic policies do not attract a NCB discount, nor do such policies acrue NCB either. I also believe there is a two year expiry on NCB if not used. Worth asking Sky Insurance on here for a brief update :D

Classic policies defo do not generate any no claim bonuses but i'm sure at one point i've verbally said what years no claims bonus i had and they took this into consideration when quoting and i'm sure they told me i couldn't place any bonuses on it anyway even if i wanted to :? IMO they should have warned you about loosing them so if they didn't kick up a fuss with that said insurance company :D
