I'm really hating this thread, my 316i does about 250miles to a tank, I have a new tank in it, I do a fair few town miles, but also the same probably on the motorway. whether i boot it or not i seem to get around the 250 mark. most I have ever seen is about 270/280. it is on 163,000 though.

I used to own an e34 525i sport (m50) and did bristol to coventry and back on about £20. doing 70.

hoping to convert my 316i to a 318is/325i. sounds like it will be better on fuel too.

Ouch! My 316i used to consistently get just over 300 miles to a tank, but that was only after fixing quite a few issues.. Does it run properly and not stink of fuel etc? You might find a good service makes a world of difference...

the bigger engines do well on the motorway though... the 316i has a stupid diff ratio (4.27?) which makes it work pretty hard at 70mph

110 miles from a full tank ?! There's definitely something wrong there. Does it smell like it's running rich? Have you looked at the spark plugs?

Was the new temp sensor the blue sensor?

Mind you, if you're only doing 8 miles a day - which i'm assuming is 4 miles each trip then you are going to see lousy fuel consumption, given that each time you drive it the engine never gets a chance to warm up properly and is running almost double fuel for those 4 miles!

ive had it on emisions tester in work and its comes up fine on that, when cold the exhaust pops as i change gear, sounds good but it sounds like its dumping fuel and yes it was blue temp, going to buy aset if injectors off ebay then send them to get rocond

This is a situation in which a single point LPG conversion really scores. It's always easiest to start the car from cold using petrol, but for nine months of the year it can be switched to LPG immediately after, and in the remaining three after around a quarter of a mile.
LPG needs no cold engine enrichment, so consumption is 'normal' from cold, and engine wear due to bore wash doesn't happen either.

Yes its pretty high revving at 70mph, espically compared to my Mum's e46 316i (1.9). So suppose that doesnt help towards the mpg.

Its due a service, but I cant see it becoming amazing on fuel overnight. fingerscrossed looking at a vauxhall combo tomorow for work so the E30 will become a weekend toy/project.

I have to say though it goes really well for a 1.6 8v, like it shouldn't go as well as it does for a 1.6, so that might have something to do with the fuel useage.

Mate thats on TRACK! not on the road. The same car then did 400 miles to the next tank plodding 80mph home on the motorway, loaded up

60L, isn't that a large tank? I've never put more than ~43L in mine (but then again I haven't run it down to the light ever either)...
