went in yesterday to get a sat-nav, seen a roller ball tool chest. the advert said:- buy the 5 drawer tool chest for £149 and get the 7 drawer free or buy both for £270. called the manager and asked why pay £270 when the advert says both for £149. His reply and I quote "shit that's not right, someone has dropped a bollock" To cut a long story short, I got both for £149. Real good quality as well.

Well, I've had a set of the Halfords Professional ones for a good while now. They've seen some action and a bit of abuse too (19mm ring spanner hooked over the open jaw to get a diff mounting bolt undone sort of thing) and they've never shown the slightest hint of packing in.

You must be a complete animal if your breaking the ratchet spanners (no offence intended)

They are not designed for breaking off or tightening, they are only meant to be used for winding threads.

Ive been using them since Halfords first sold them and never had to take any back, the only problem ive had is they sometimes stick, squirt of WD40/bit of compressed air and theyre good as new.

Halfords are good for some things although the staff tend to be the sort who work in Burger King or Lidl - they don't give a toss !

Anyway, the missus got this for me at Christmas :D

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165667

Pretty good quality, and nicely filled up with tools I've no idea how to use

BTW - she had to force someone to help her to get it to the car 8O
Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.

Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

I always have to laugh when someone has a go at halfords staff, I worked in one for a few years between 6th Year at secondary school and 2nd Year at uni and yes none of us really knew f**k all about cars, childseats or bikes but we got paid £5.50 an hour.

Would you trust a mechanic that got paid £5.50 an hour, probably not.

I'm not having a go but the people that do know there stuff don't stay as there wasted and can earn alot more money doing something that earns more cash. Even the store managers don't get paid as much as people would think.

What's the best story to give them to get a trade card? Or do they just dish them out to anyone who applies?

And how does one go about obtaining a trade card if one isn't (strictly) involved in the motor trade?

You need to prove you are trade or part of a trade scheme. Ask for a form from your local place and PM when you have the form.. i will help you get one.

I have had mine for years, before i was a trader :)

What a complete load of b0ll0cks. you appear to be the only one thats had issues and 6 sets!!!!!? You re supposed to use a breaker bar to crackoff tight bolts etc or standard spanners or sockets.

Both Si1 and I use Halfords ratchets spanners in anger and we ain't had one go tits up yet! And I got a set of the "X Beam" ones for xmas. They are legend!
