My 316 hit an axle stand at 85 in the outside lane of the M5, hit the central barrier, bounced back and then finished up in the fast lane 11pm at night, and walked away. How hard is this car!!!!

no pix but i ran into a 206 5 days after picking up the E30, caved its full driver side in, sent it flying into a field which caused serious underside and passenger side damage. the police sent me home with a fist sized dent in my wing and i later found out the old barsteward i ran into waited over an hour for a recovery truck then realised he wasnt insured, it was him that phoned the police :chuckle: . ive still to be called witness that he was driving on the night :teehee:

You run in to some strange gits on the the road. My mate left my 320 in Reading Sainsbury, for me to pick it up the next day. Some little tw*ts set fire to it. I rang the the Police said I could pick it up and some crazy thick f**king clamper stole it. Rang him up Mobile only no adress in the end he told me to fcuk off. All I wanted was the wheels Back.

yeah my old 318i was hit in the rear quarter by a mk2 golf gti at 80 plus.. sent the e30 into a fence with a 180 spin. the golf was history it had no front left. i had a lucky escape in that 1 and so did the driver of the golf. the 318 drive shaft was in fact snapped in half from the crash. but the metal used to make these legends was so good. its still on the drive so anyone in wales wants 318i bits in diamond black reply im near newport. cheers martin.

i hit the centrol res in an e30 at 80mph on the a10 afew years back now , the drivers wheel was sitting on top of the reavation , after getting someone to drag me off it i drove the thing home . i bent the susption leg , wiped out the bumper, grill, bonnet, both front wheels and the wing . i couldnt belive it when i see the front and i didnt even brake a head light or crack the sump , not even the air had come out of the front wheels . now thats wot i call lucky . if it was a ford or some think like that i wouldnt like to think were ide be now , i was glad i could drive it home as i had no brake down cover

With me the axle stand took out the suspention, steering and nearly ripped the wheel off. That threw me into the barrier. Just shows how strong e30's are and you drove home, bet you were shaking a bit

I was driving my missus 316i home from work last february in the pissing rain at 6 am (pitch black and no street lights) pulled out of a t junction turning right, some nob head in a ford mundane with no lights on hit me in the drivers door at 40 mph. He didn't have time to slow down so he hit me with full force.

The e30 was pushed about 10 feet up the road when we finally came to a stop, I moved out of the middle of the road and parked up. The front end of his mundane was totalled, headlights bumper wings all flattened. the radiator had burst and the windscreen had cracked.

I could still open the drivers door despite a twisted floor pan and mangled door. I was still driving it for several days afterwards, while his pile of junk had to be towed away. Unfortunately our 316i was scrapped as a cat d write off.

Her's a bad pic (mobile phone)
Image

I was unhurt as was the mundane driver, unfortunately we ended up taking 50/50 blame as I couldnt prove he had no lights on :wan:

Cheers,

Ian, sorry to hear of your plight there.

This sounds a bit anal, but there is a way of determining if the other party had lights on/working lights at the time, but it is a potentially costly procedure. The police do it occasionally on fatal accidents etc.

basically, if a light is working at the time of impact and the bulb gets broken then particles of glass get fused to the hot filaments of the bulb, no particles fused to filament= no light on/working.

It would have to be sent to a lab for analysis and i have no idea of the cost but just some useless info for you all

You're lucky mate! Glad you werent hurt badly.

11 months on and I'm still gutted about writing off my beloved 325. She was mint. It was a slippy road and I started fish-tailing coming out of quick bend. Eventually my luck (and steering lock!) ran out and I lost it and spun into a tree a fair distance from th bend itself. (BTW, the bend is behind the camera man!)

The thing is his ford is probably designed to do that on impact. What I mean is they designe crumple zones into the front of car these days to absorb the impact rather that transmit that force to the driver.

After the accident it make you think pile of rubbish, wouldnt want to be in that but in reality it probably saved the driver further injuries

E30's crumple as well but protect the cab. It may be a 20 years old design but it was 15 years head of its time.

hi mate, i was driving on a "a" road through the country when i came over the brow of a hill to find a flatbed truck coming head on ,on my side of the road,he was trying to overtake going up a hill just 100 metres from the crest! i managed to aim for the small gap between the oncoming traffic but still hit the truck head on passenger side to passenger side,my front wheel was ripped off and pushed up through the dash and the whole car was buckled, i then spun off into a field landing on top of a fence perched over a ditch, never had a seatbelt on and walked away without a scratch!! but it was the end of my 320 touring, but on the bright side it led me on to bigger things...my cossie converted 325 touring :D that was in may this year.
