m50 engine-m42 box- 320 prop question-pics ect

As above ^, I've gone to connect my prop and noticed the centre bearing does not line up with the 2 holes in the car! Had a look at reversing the centre bearing but there is a lip on the other side stopping it from going over the bearing on the prop!

I have a 320 manual prop but someone told me you need a 325 manual prop so I bought one just in case....

Yes whoever told you that was right ferg!
Just me measured them up and the front half of the 325 prop is slightly shorter than the 320!
I'm going to try that now but cos of my z3 shifter I'm going to remove the large round apnin rather than bend my linkage!

Yep, 325 prop is the way to go with the M42 box dudes. Remove the vibration damper like you plan to Ant.

All done! Cheers lee, just got it back together now- 325 front half (minus vib damper), e30 centre bearing (as normal), 320 back half.
Time to fit!

i tried to use my 320 prop as the 325 ones have a big vibration damper that would have got in the way of my linkage ect but it seems the 320 front half is about an inch longer than the 325, which is how much my centre bearing was out by! so i did the above and took off the damper and hooked it up to the back end of 320 and this works great. there must be a slight difference in the boxes even if only an inch mate!

this is the whole thing made up from, 325 front (no vib damper), e30 centre bearing (as normal), and 320 back half.........


this is a short teaser of it running...! at this point she had no lambda sensor (reason for moving it to car park), no air filter and just the downpipes......

currently i have an m40, will be going m50 - Is it worth me going to the trouble of sourcing an m42 box or should i just stick with the m40 box and get a 320 prop to save the messing around with different bits of different props?

If you already have the m40 box and 320 prop use those (if that combo works), but my car started a 320i which I converted to 325 so I had the choice of props. I sourced out the m42 box as I'd been told its the better for handling the torque. Its up to you but decide which box your going to use and then the prop choice is made for you aswel

If yours is a known good box then thats got to be better than some random unknown box off ebay or whatever...

Don't forget to change the spigot bearing in the M50 to suit the smaller input shaft either way

Well, my box doesn't crunch or seem to have any other issues tbh, i've driven it daily for over a year since i got it and no problems so i'll stick with that

Yes mate, m20 spiggot has 12mm diameter hole which matches the input shafts of the said boxes. M50-52's have 15mm spiggots.

No worries,
No noticable difference with the damper removed! Reason I took it off is clearance between the prop and my linkage (which I didn't want to bend)
