Like the looks.
Like the dimensions

Hate the engine choice
Hate the lack of 4 pots on the front!

It's too close to just being a 135i PLUS. Not enough "M"

EDIT

Do like this 'shop though.

it looks good but not wild enough

performance wise will it be much over a 135i with a map ? :?

the M badge is a marketing tool and has been ever since the e36 M3.

the M models need to be naturaly aspirated, they need to be a Motorsport car, a focused drivers car like the CSL, like the e30 M3.

i remember a story about the e30 M3, some people who wanted the top of the range e30 were confused why the M3 had less cylinders and less capacity than a 325i. they didnt understand what it was about.

my view is that BMW are again in this stupid horse power race with Audi and MB, where is it going to stop ?

by all means, make silly powerful 5 series, and add a few spoilers here and there but call it a M Sport edition with the fancy packaging but not an M5. the M badge is very special but needs to be used less.

the 1 series M coupe should in my opinion be a hard edged car, they could have used the s54 or the e90 320si engine which was a homologation special for WTCC. big brakes, race seats, a wing on the back etc. who cares if it wasnt as powerful as 135i. you could price it higher for having less kit like a 911 GT3RS and people would buy it

limit the numbers, limit the colours limit the option and you can still market it an make a killing.

as good as the car is its not an M, the badge is being de valued in the name of marketing and money.

however i'd still have one

This car is a bit like a M535i. Body and suspension bits but normal engine.

That's what EVERYONE wanted. Sadly BMW can bang on about it being "pure M" but everyone knows that it's just a 135i with a chip and some wheels! There's no "M" in that lump. And that's ALL that matters to me. :( And where are the uprated front calipers from the 135i?

They were this --> <-- close to getting it perfect and shifting thousands....

I bet they are going to charge M servicing costs on that engine.

BMW has finally unveiled its latest M car: the 1-Series M Coupe. With 335bhp, a 0-62mph time of less than five seconds, and a £39,990 list price, BMW has gone straight for the recently-announced Audi RS3’s jugular.

The baby M’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six - as seen in the Z4 35is - produces peak power at 5900rpm. There’s 332lb ft of twist between 1500 and 4500rpm, but an overboost facility increases this to 369lb ft under full throttle (the V8-engined M3 generates 414bhp and 295lb ft).

That power and torque equates to a 0-62mph time of 4.9secs (we often find that BMW’s outperform their claims, though and would expect the M Coupe to rival the RS3’s 4.6secs claim), 0-124mph in 17.3secs, and on to a limited 155mph top speed.

Read our drive and see Chris Harris' video review of the 1-Series M development car

Gearbox purists will rejoice that it is only available with a six-speed manual ”˜box, which is hooked up to BMW’s Variable M differential. Pressing the M button on the steering wheel puts the car in M Dynamic Mode, giving the driver access to the highest power levels.

Aluminium suspension components are borrowed from the M3, as are the cast iron discs - 360mm at the front and 350mm at the back.

BMW have said the M Coupe will lap the Nurburgring quicker than an E46 M3. That’s perfectly plausible ”“ we wouldn’t be surprised if it gave the current M3 a fair fight round the ”˜Ring either.

Read our early 'M1' news story

Compared to the standard 1-series, the M coupe has a 71mm wider track at the front and 46mm at the rear, and it has been lowered by 20mm. It weighs 1495kg, which is a bit porkier than we were hoping.

For those with less talent than money the car comes fitted with a wealth of safety tech that includes: Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), anti-slip control (ASC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), an anti-fading function and a dry brake function.
