have you got spark?? check the crankshaft position sensor for chaffing where it runs behind the pulleys..

have you any immobilisers fitted?
have you checked the multiplug beneath the inlet manifold or tried wiggling it with the engine running/trying to run?

the fuel pump relay is orange and under the bulkhead wiring cover - it has a green/purple wire going in to it.
if you link together pins 30 and 87 the pump should run

Turn the relay over to see the pins and youll see the nymbers next to each pin. Then just work out where they locate in the holder and bridge 30 and 87

as above..you dont need the ignition on..just remove the relay and bridge the 2 pins...listen for the pump

you checked the fuses..fuse 11 is the bad boy for the pump if you want to double check

If this car has a 325 M20 engine fitted, the fuel pump relay is now likely to be in the vicinity of the air filter. On E30s with factory fitted 6 pot engines, the relay is clipped to the back of the air filter bracket, along with the DME relay and a socket for the lambda sensor heater relay, all all covered by a black plastic housing.
Relay pin numbers are marked on the relay.

you didnt need the ignition on when bridging..did you have someone in the back listening for the pump?

when it doesn't start try bridging the wires again and at the same time test for power at the pump with a multimeter or test lamp. that way you can rule out/in wiring etc

but it does sound like an intermittant pump fault..

i didnt have the ing on mate ,as soon as i put the wires in 30 and 86 ,the ing lights came on anyway ,so i then had a listen for the pump

i need a test lamp then ,or say a bulb with wires on at a guess to see it there power getting there etc

If you join 30 and 87, (or 30 and anything else), the ignition lights shouldn't come on.
Are you sure you've found the pump relay.
