this is what the nib of the fuel pump looks like, lloks like a banjo fitting type of thing. has a tiny little ball bearing inside. i have removed this and put a blank threaded sleeve on

Could this be my problem?

If there is a little ball bearing inside it'll be a non-return valve anyway.
Should still run without it though once it has built up the pressure at the rail.

I did wonder that, but Adem's engine is a 2003, and that should have a 5 pin MAF connector. They stopped using the 3 pin plug in June 2000.0010 wrote:thats for the air mass meter

That's not the maf. Ian is right maf is a 5 pin plug. This is spare.
With regards to the mounts I have an m5 mount one side and m3 mount other side. So should be fine ;)
Might hold the engine 10-15mm higher so bonnet clearance may be fun, some bonet lining may have to come out.

As was said before the fuel pressure is important. My expierience of those walbro pumps is they often dont supply full pressure. I have tested a number of them and they all dropped pressure and would not sustain 5 bar. Stick a gauge in the line and check. Once the pressure dropped the engine would cut out similar to your car.
hmmmm, where does one get/make a suitable gauge?

We'll see how it goes, if they start to fail i will probably order the Akg ones. but it is only a weekend road casr for now...

Did your exhaust catch the steering uj? coz that used to happen on my m52. This being lhd there is nothing really near the steering uj...

Friends M50 locked the column on his car as he only used E34 M50 mounts.

similar happened to me on a 4 lane roundabout, defo not fun, will be making sure theres plenty of clearance.

So got an in line pressure gauge, fitted it between output of pressure regulator and engine fuel line. When the engine starts pressure is approx 4 bar, when it stalls it rises to 5 ish. Does this mean the engine is getting enough pressure at the fuel rail?

Are you sure the fuel system is correct? The regulator controls the pressure by returning fuel to the tank. You seem to have a static pressure that is normal (5bar) but when the engine runs the pressure is to low.
If you run the pump without the engine running the pressure should rise to 5 bar and then the pressure regulator should cut in and return fuel to the tank to maintain 5bar. That shows the regulator is working. If you slowly clamp the return you should see the pressure rise as the fuel cannot return to the tank. The pressure would rise to the maximum pressure of the pump. Do not allow it to rise to high or hose may fail or connections.
With the car running the pressure should be 5 bar if it is lower then you can have running problems. its defo on the pressure side, Like u say it does rise to a max of 5bar even though it is an 8 bar pump ( in theory)
I will try it without the engine running and make sure i have the right pipe going back to the tank.
I only had the plenum off to test if there was any running difference with it on/off, (and there wasnt) but apart from that the exhaust is the only thing not been made up yet.

The control of pressure in the system is the regulator not the pump so if your pump is rated for 8 bar as i said clamp a return and you will see 8 bar or more. The pump on a normal e30 has a 2.5 or a 3 bar regulator but the pump will deliver a higher pressure if you block the return you will see the pressure rise to the maximum static pressure of the pump when you create flow then the pressure drops. So the pump is best described by the amount it can flow at a certain pressure. This is where i found the problem with the cheap fuel pumps unlike the likes of the oem bosch pumps.
on a different subject quickly, someone has said using the Z3m S54 engine arms will hold the engine lower and closer to the back rather than the m3 ones.

So, today I finally made up mu gear selector. After lots of grinding drilling and welding i can finally change gears
not that I have a prop to drive anywhere but hey
