Fumes through the air conditioner

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has any light to shed on reason for petrol fumes filling the car when airconditioner on.
Car in question is 1990 325i. All fuel lines etc have been replaced and there are no problems with funmes at any other time except when I use the air conditioner and it is bad enough to turn it off!!! Using fan without aircon has no fumes??

Any ideas??

does this still happen in resirculate mode dude ?

I'll check and get back Ant..I don't usually use recirc so has been happening in direct flow. Will post up when I've checked.

As per Ant..no fumes when using aircon recirc mode?

Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this?
