I was replacing the dash in my IS last night (various bits not working, which I discovered on the journey home after buying it from the ripoff merchant b??tard I bought it from, aargh, but that's another story). When I dropped the trim panel above the pedals I discovered someone had been in there before me. The wiring loom around the ECU has been messed about with (see pic below). Any ideas what the previous owner(s) might have been trying to achieve? The car appears to be standard, electrically so I wondered why these mods have been made. Non standard ECU maybe?

Should be working now in edited post, above. There's no alarm any more as far as I can tell - at least there's nothing on the wing in the engine bay where it would normally be. The central locking doesn't work either, but that may be totally unrelated.

Are you sure you can't see it now, in my initial post? I just tried it on another PC and I can see it ok.

I can see it too. Looks like a lot of wires have been resoldered.

What's the black cylindrical thing with a brown end just below the red bracket? This looks like its been added to the ECU wiring. Appears to join to two black wires going into the ECU plug.
Is the wiring on the right with all the blue tape and an extra fuseholder connected to the ECU wiring loom, or one of the body looms?

Someone has been busy...
It does look like someone has cut into a lot of the ECU wiring...
As Brian said, looks like there is a black fuse holder on the right that isn't normally there.
Check to see if the chassis number on the ECU ties up with your car, if not then maybe someone tried to substitute a 3rd party ECU at some time.
Curious !

I would think someone has wired in a piggy back ecu (DASTEK) etc and has then removed it before selling.
