I recently bought a very nice 318is. Thing is im at a bit of a dilemma of wether to lower it or not. The mtec suspension seems very good. Am i going to wreck it by lowering it? There was a feature car in total bmw, a red 325i motorsport that was lowered 60mm on apex springs with spax shocks. Is this a decent way to go? It looked very good. Also am I going to be able to get over speed bumps at 60mm? Any other suggestions are very welcome. Thanks.

Well you should already have the M-tech shocks so if there in good nick and you want the car a little lower for a good price, i say get the -40mm H & R springs :thumb:

60mm is tooo low, god knows how you went on with an 80mm drop dude......wow i bet its arse was dragging on the floor, lol. my sig pic is 60mm all round with spax adjustables and i personally thought the ride was crap, dont get me wrong it looks nice but you loose all ride quality, mine is back on standard m-tech springs now and is a little high now, but fcuk it im selling her anyway

Hmmm, the H and R springs for sale on the zone shop for the 318is are only a kit and are 60/40mm. Where do I get the 40mm? Thanks for all the feedback.

You are probably best off sending a PM to M5Pilot (Sal) who runs the zone shop.

I may be totally wrong here but I thought the 318iS suspension was the same as the 325?

If that is the case there is the H&R spring kit in the 325i section on the zone shop, page 2, which is Ԛ£96 + Ԛ£9 P&P.

But worth checking with someone more in the know before pulling out your credit card. It doesn't state how much the spring kit lowers the car by either.

Mine is a 60/40 drop as you see in my sig pic. I am going to revert to a more modest set up in terms of ride height but not before I put some 15" alloys on. 17" look superb but you are just undoing any hard work/ expense with the lowered/uprated suspension by sticking 17" alloys on as the car tramlines on back roads and I'm pretty sure I will find a noticeable difference with an improvement in the handling when I go back to 15's.

Sorry for going off topic about 17" wheels though

Yeah I would have thought that it would be the same as the 325 as it is mtec suspension. I will try find out tho. Thanks. Yeah Iv noticed a fair difference as the old car had 17's yet the 318is has 15's and it handles ace!!!

I have the standard m-tech suspension on my 318iS but I run it on 16"s and it is sweet as. In my humble opinion, this can be a nice compromise, looks good and handles well. previously ran on 14"s so not in a position to compare to 15"s tobe fair.

A nice drop is 60/40 KW, gives the car a nice raked look and gets rid of
the unsightly gap on the front, you'll be fine with this drop, 60/60 or 80mm drop is too much.

I bought a set of 60mm Apex springs to go on mine, but ended up taking them back to the shop as so many people said it was a bad idea. I'm still running the same set up - koni adjustable shocks/eibach springs 40mm all round, gives a good ride, but I may change the shocks for something a little less hard. Going over speed bumps is ok, but if i've got a few people in the car, it does scrape, so I have to be super careful....Speed Bumps :wtf: I hate them....
