Hi,
Firstly, are there any decent sites or even books i could buy with info about the M88 engine (as featured in the E24 M635i), also the M30B35 (as featured in the E34 535i)
Just the engine i'm after, so i can strip and rebuild it, then the car would come, and then i drop it in...
Secondly, i'm guessing both engines have 12v?
But I can't decide, nor can I find an M30 let alone an M88, an M88 would be amazing, does it run on Motronic 1.1, does the M30B35 run on Motronic 1.1 or 1.3? IF the M88 is motronic 1.1, would be possible upgrade it for 1.3? reason being: the 325i phase 2 (which is what i want) was on 1.3 yea. Not essential, i find the reliability/diagnosticability of the 1.3 quite cool, but i guess a chip reprogram would be needed.
Thanks,
Deian

Isnt the M88 the engine from the M1, as well as the M635CSi and the E28 M5?
Thats 3.5ltr 24v motor that became the 3.6/3.8ltr S38 in the later M5s. I think an M88 motor would be well hard to find and you would be better off and have more chance finding an S38 - 315bhp instead of 280bhp.
The M30 is a 12v motor from the things like the 530i 535i 730i 735i etc and much more common to find. 218bhp in 3.5ltr form.

yes it's from the M1, i think it was put in the M1 first, it's a nice looking engine. But yes, i think the S38 or M30 would be nicer, 24v hmm, good or not? i think good cos if the valves collide u have less damage cos u only have half the valves, plus less movement inside too, just my ideas

An S38 is way way superior to an m30 and way more expensive to repair iof anything goes wrong.
The 3.6 variant of the S38 is very very strong though. I would go with this conversion without a doubt.
