Hi guys,

When having new tyres fitted I discovered that one bolt on two seperate hubs was not screwing in as there was no thread on the inside of the hub for the bolt to attach onto.

Has anyone replaced the hubs on their car and if so is this a big and/or expensove job?

Currently driving round with only three bolts on two of the wheels and opinions seem to vary as to wether this is a good idea or not!?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Geeman

Not a good idea at all!

For a start, the balance will be out, giving greater forces on the remaining three bolts. I'd be VERY careful while driving... if driving at all!

Front hubs are complete with wheels bearings anyway, so just replace them. Rear hubs are bolt on, over the wheel bearings, so would be a good idea to replace them at the same time...

as for the front as giles said its all one assembly and is easy to change

the rear has a separate half shaft/hub bit. u need to remove the drivesahft nut, remove the drive shaft, then knock out the halfshaft from behind. chances are the inner race of the rear wheel bearing will be stuck to the halfshaft, so u'll need to renew the bearing and then get a new/2nd hand halfshaft and whack that on. Have fun trying to remove the bloody wheel bearing from the trailing arm-its bloody hard sometimes!!!

Just replaced a front hub on mine. Piece of cake. New hub and bearing less than Ԛ£25 from GSF.
