At some point it seems some tool has used what looks like bathroom sealant to attach a spoiler. After the spoiler was, err, helpfully removed from the boot I am left with a mess.

So basically, are there any methods of removing it from the paintwork? I've tried peeling, but some of it appears to have stuck properly, so that wasn't particularly successful..

You can buy silicone sealant remover, but I have no idea how good it is. :P

I assume using thinners is not a great idea either..?

I am going to attack the remnants of the blue gunk stuff with compound, but I will be left with the white bathroom sealant still.

i'd be careful using a toffee wheel on it your likely to burn through try soaking it in some type of wd40 oil and see if it gets underneath anywhere

I've used lighter fluid in the past, with good results. You need to keep soaking a rag and applying it to the sealant. It doesn't work instantly but with patience it should do the trick.

Angle grinder will definately remove it. :D

Decorators window scrapper will do it but carefully like Telski said... I use them at work for careful detail when needed.

I had exactly the same. Just used Silicone Sealant remover from B&Q. All off, no paint damage.

bug and tar remover should work fine, take your pick AG, Chemical Guys, Megs, there are loads available.

Those glue remover wheels are great, as long as your working on decent paint you wont have a problem.

not sure if it will ruin the paint but white spirit will remove silicone sealant
