I have managed to get hold of full wiring harness and switches for my e30 leather seats.

I was wondering if anyone could advise me on how to connect them and how to put switches in etc.

I am not really good on DIY so teh simpler the instructions/advise the better.

Pictures would be even better showing what to do and how .

Thanks

Hi, I'm literally going to do this at the weekend, the loom plugs into the accessory socket, which is white, about 2inches square and behind the glovebox. There are scored cut outs for the heated seat switches on the underside of the console next to the handbrake, I wouldn't bother going under the carpet between the accessory socket and switches, but would reccomend it to the seats.

Just in the middle of doing this, if you have a 2dr I think it would be better to use a 4 electric windows console and put the heated seat switches in the redundant holes. rather than next to the handbrake. . . hands sliced a little bit, but nearly there.

you have to remove the front seats first of all, theres a slit in the carpet under the seats where the connection can coem out, as above if its a 2dr then just use the space near the window switches, i just pulled out a ruler and a pencil than looking at the cut outs underneath and took some measurements of the window switche slot and cut it out, taking the centre console completely out is kinda long,

just wire it along from the glovebox underneathe the carpet, its kinda fiddly, i used a peice of metal wire and some duck tape to guide it along under the carper,

17mm bolts for seats, plug loominto white plug behind gbox and wire to seats

Cheers Malc, seats are at the trimmers getting repaired and heated elements added, but plenty of red stuff under the carpet now judging by my hands.

To the OP I have 4 heated seat switches, every one of them was shorting, up to 3V, this won't flatten the battery as the heated seat loom is off with the key out, but it's not ideal. Also if your bulbs in the switches are blown, they are soldered in and look very difficult to replace.

To take apart the switches, use a small screwdriver to release the ratchet clips. Clean the lower half out with switch cleaner or degreaser of some description, the top half with an airline. Beware of the 2mm ball bearing in the top half, visible when you dismantle the two halves, it will fall out.

To check, the 4 pin connectors to the seat,
brown is earth (to one side call it number 1)

On low setting,
Between 1 and 2 should be 0v,
Between 1 and 3 should be 0v,
Between 1 and 4 should be 12v,

On high setting,
Between 1 and 2 should be 12v,
Between 1 and 3 should be 12v,
Between 1 and 4 should be 0v,

edit for reference - pin 4 is in fact earth on high setting

If the 0v above have any voltage your switches are shorting.

Thanks everyone. I have Taken the centre console out and think that it will be better trying to get console off 4 door so it makes putting switches in easier. Didnt want to really take this route but going off my past attempts at diy I can imagine making a pigs ear out of it. I have for the moment just fitted seats in and I will say they look splendid , and I can't recommend gluptones scuff master enough , absolutely transformed the interior. So for moment I'm happy with it but have the loom and switches and will make time for it sometime soon. I have just driven it after 4 weeks in Bodyshop looks nice but still lots left to do ( bit rust under rear arch hidden due to but if plastic that covers bottl
Part of door so looks like it mint but it will need doing and soon but I was not willing to have it in shop any longer. Just finished driving it perfect conditions, slippery surface made mr realise exactly why I bought it ! Anyway I need to stop texting and sleep early start .

Does anyone have any pics of the wiring? Is the connector on the seat loom being changed to the BMW connector which connects straight to the bmw loom or is the BMW loom being fitted with the waelco connector which then fits directly to the waelco seat loom?Basically which connector is being changed and what wired go to what?? Have the BMW loom fitted and the waelco elements and need to find out how to wire them?

Also have seat wiring for origional heated elements so can join that to waelco seat loom which will then just plug into the BMW loom.

Hope that makes sence!!
Any help appreciated :D

Have found this thread but i don't fully understand it. did you modify the loom, remove original connectors and join up the waelco connectors which then plugged into the seat loom? I have a problem being: the colour of the wires is different in my loom:
Waelco seat loom:
1)Red
2)Black
3)Green

and the BMW connector going to the seat loom are:
1)Red
2)Yellow/red line
3)Yellow/red line
4)Red

Heated loom:
1)Brown
2)Yellow
3)Red/yellow line
4)Red

Sorry for pestering you just really want to get it sorted!

Thaks,
John

I've cut off the BMW connector. If you're looms are different colours then all i can say is that you need to match your wires to the information I've provided using a multi meter, i'll help if you're local or perhaps a friend could help?

its just the 3 wires thats going to the waelco seat loom thats different. would you have a pic of the rotation of the wires in your block connector L-R with the clip to the to as im sure they could be matched that way?

I did this because I thought I'd never get the new holes to line up straight on the rear section of the centre console but it looks fine

Sorry chap, there's not a chance in hell am I going to put myself in line for being held responsible for your car burning to the ground.

I've advised how to check and identify the circuits in the waeco kit, if you donn't have a multi meter a reliable DIY suitable unit can be bought for around £20.

wil the waeco pads be cuttable possibly, to slip in to the two sections in a cabby seat..... how did you install in your sports seat? is the leather and padding not stiched together allowing only strips to be inserted?

mine are cloth sports seats, don't know how about cabby seats, I don't know how the elements are for normal cabby seats.
