I got some HIDs many years ago for my e36, after selling that I was friendly with the supplier and they swapped my bulbs for ones that would then fit my replacement car a mark 4 golf. after a couple of years that went and i got the e30, at which point i used an angle grinder to make the bulbs fit winkeye

The other day whilst at a meet i turned the lights on and a fuse blew, replaced the fuse and all was good. However last night it went again, i assumed it would be the fuse but nope, after a few bits swapping around i identified it to be the ballast box.

now i've had a good few years out of those ballast boxes (maybe 5-6!?), but am wondering if i should now go back to standard?
does fitting HIDs cause the sidelights to stop working? (i never bothered checking but sure i read it somewhere)

And if i do buy some more HIDs where is the best place? I also remember reading that all HID kits are by the same manufacturer??

so many questions!

Cheers all.

Hi fella..

IIRC, you need to disconnect the resistor plugs on the inside of the inner N/S front wing to prevent strobing of the HIDs, but they don't stop the sidelights working in a literal sense.

If you are looking for ballasts, are you running a 35W system? If so, I have 2 here you can have for a tenner (excl. postage). I used them for about 6 months on my E30 before replacing the system with a 50W kit, so they're just collecting dust.

If you want complete new kits, I got mine from HIDS Direct.

I've got decent H4 halogens in my classic Mini.. but well and truly missed HIDs when swapping between that and the E30.

Cheers..

Ian

most pointless thread ever.

I double checked the ballast box (mainly too see if it was 35w or 50w), and tried it in the other side, and... it worked just fine!
So, looks like it was just my dodgy wiring, both side working fine now :-)

Cheers for the offer anyway!
