Welcome to the Zone Bluestone! Your E30 320 will have approx 127bhp as standard. Im not sure on the exact figure, as ive never really owned a 320, but the best mod, im told is to fit a throttle body off a 325. It takes 4 bolts, 1 new gasket and about 30 minutes work, even for someone who isnt very good with spanners. Ive had a bit of practise on these engines now and i reckon i could easily swap a throttle body in 10 minutes.

What year is the car? If it has plastic bumpers, our resident Chip maker, Ant could do send you a chip for Ԛ£55 - thats the other best mod for a 320.

120,000 miles for these cars is not a lot either. Most cars you will see are dead by the time they get to 100k, but these (especially the M20 engines{M20 is the number to designate a 2.0 or 2.5 or 2.7 6 cylinder E30 engine})
The most important thing to remember is not the BHP figure. Its the Torque figure! However, you are not going to make a massive gain in BHP with the 320 engine unfortunately.

You should find almost any information you will ever need on here. Hope you enjoy it! Welcome to the Mad House!

Cheers for your reply scott! :)

It Dosnt have plastic strips.. im not sure need to check but its dark now! lol

its an auto ( a bit of a downside ) but up untill now ive been driving a saxo vtr 1.6i..

Havent really floored the 320 yet... so not sure what to excpect from performance yet...

hows the torque on them normally standard?

Really lookin forward to gettin it by next week.. gotta go pick it up! :D

Not strips mate, the actual bumper - it will either be metal on the top, in which case its what we calla pre-facelift car. If it has plastic bumpers, its a facelift car (facelift cars run from E plate onwards)

If you are coming from a 1.6 vtr, your gonna be gutted, especially as its auto. the VTR will wazz all over an auto 320 im afraid. If you have a thiing for going fast as i do, get yourself a 325 engine and slap that in. A 325 engine will be 171bhp at the flywheel, get a chip off Ant and get an E30Zone Big brore throttle body for the 325 engine. That should release a few more horsies. If you want to crack the magic 200bhp though, you will need to go for a 2.7 rebuild or turbo/ supercharger OR a different engine transplant. See our other section for that though.

yer ashame on insurance huh! :x

I really do hope the 320i will be able to keep up with 150bhp some how without doing major upgrades.. i got an auto which is annoyin! but wow i must say the car sounds really nice with the standard system.. it sounds like the beeema sound if u know what i mean (compared to a done up Vtr lol)

No mate, a VTR is light and made of plastic (no offence) where as the E30 is heavy and made of old german steel toe-capped boots and titanium nitride coated war heads! lol. The vtr has about 250-300kg over the E30 i think, plus that 1.6 is a revvy 4pot, where as the 320 2.0 engine is a 6pot cruiser.

Im also 20 (coming up 21, so insurance goes down Ԛ£200+ in november!) so i can appriciate where ur coming from. The 2.5 is worth doing though. the engine looks exactly the same too. winkeye
Rather than do an induction kit, get a K'n'N panel filter, not a cone filter as they are exposed to the heat in the engine bay and they run bad in traffic when the car gets warm with no ram effect.
Chip it, 325 throttle body and maybe a zorst too, but extracting more power from these m20 engines is hard because they are designed so solidly.

it would cost allot of cash to put a 325 in to a 320? no? i mean i would love to but its probably so much cash.. i just wanna get a K&n panel like u said and put a nice zorst on it to boost its power..

my saxo yer was made out of plastic... didnt feel safe for some reason! but wow it shifted like shit off a shovel hehe!

how much do u recon it would cost me to do the beema's engine to a 2.5? this 320i has done over 124,000 miles so id need a good nick engine i guess..

:D

i see in some forums that the 320i is about 146bhp... but my X vtr was 115bhp so whats going on here lol

Welcome mate :thumb:

As already said, the 320i isnt exactly gonna fly but driving one will be completely different to the Saxo (drifting comes to mind  ) and with the few choice mods mentioned it will be nice - and then theres the sound

It was driving my brothers 320i touring that convinced me to get my 325i, which I did when I turned 21. Insurance wasnt too bad, but its worth waiting that extra year or two.

Scott has pretty much covered what to do with 320i, just make sure you stay away from the K&N kits, unless you have a good heat shield. You could always get a BMC Carbon Airbox and then swap it over when/if you go the 2.5 route.

It shouldnt cost that much to drop the 2.5 into the 320i - its basically the same engine, but not having done it I couldnt say for sure.

The E36 320i (M50 24v engine) has about 150bhp, so its probably those figures that youve seen. The E30 320i is about 129bhp.

wellcome to the zone,

yep agree with all above but just remember i would rather go slower and be seen in a BMW than fast and not seen in a Saxo!

Welcome Bluestone 8) get a chip for it, 55 notes and u will never look back! ;)

chip, 2.5 tb (but u need to port the inlet mani a bit, not that much drama) and an exhaust, and u should have a much quicker car

then get some stiffer lowering springs, and fannys your fathers, brothers wife :P

also , u say the wheels are like those on a 325i, are they these?
Image

if so, GOOD MAN!, these should be part of every e30 owners kit ;)
