after shelling out a fortune over the last couple of years having a motronic 1.3 upgrade on 86 325i, top end rebuild the list goes on im now at the point where i want to restore the body on my car. I recently had a problem with water leaks which seems to be all sorted the car is now solid and rust free on the inside as ive recently had welding work done on the bulkhead. Today i was out having a poke around i took the blower housing cover off to see if there was any dirt, it was all clear, but when i pryed the sound deading back between the firewall and the engine i see rust spots some spots around the plastic fasting screws may need welding. I put my arm inside the engine bay and pushed on the foam and i could hear crunching metal not a pleasing sound. Some of foam had come away to reveal some of the flakey rust alot seems to be surface rust but i cant see the full extent. I want know how i go about replacing the sound deading/weather stripping as mine is rotten and most important getting the work done on the firewall, does the engine have to come out, how much would it cost to put this right? i dont want to scrap or sell it as ive done so much already, besides the body is pretty clean everywhere else.
