Best air intake/induction

Currently I have a basic K&N cone filter and want to improve it.

Suggestions?

How are BMC CDA systems?

A worthwhile improvement you could make would be to refit the original parts designed and tested by BMW.

I have never heard of significant gains from aftermarket induction kits. I have an M42 producing 147 BHP with standard air box.

This ^^^ is the general concensus. When I bought my touring it had a K&N 57i on and it idled rough. Fortunately the seller left all the original stuff in the boot, so I fitted it. Not only did it cure the rough idling, the performance and economy were both noticably better.

I have a dyno day booked and am getting a selection of filters along with a standard airbox to test for my project. Will post my report when it's done.

This is so true , I have just removed a k&n cone induction kit off my m20b25 and it sounds and performs better , these induction kits are a big waste of money, stick with the original .

I understand what you're saying however this is not always the case. (It may be so with BMW parts as they are better) We tested a 1.1 Mk3 Ford Fiesta which read at around 40bhp stock, and was boosted (or restored

) to 50 after a K&N was added with no other modifications
