Is an e36 more expensive to own and to repair than an e30?? Because I've just come by a beautiful 328i sedan e36 for 2600$ look here!

My main question is do parts cost a lot more for e36 than for e30's?
e30 VS e36!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find, around my area, that its cheeper to keep an e36 over the e30 only due to the fact theres more parts readily available. I can find many e36's in breaker yards the an e30, and parts from a store usualy are in stock for the e36. As for price on parts, i would say its about the same unless you looking for special parts.
As for the 328, its a very nice car, i had one for about 9months, very quick car and nice to drive, but very thirsty on fuel. Running wise, it was good, just a service kept her going.

Only real men get it done with an M20

e36's are now much cheaper to run than an E30 imo. e30 parts prices are on the up from breakers,BMW,GSf, euros. Plus all the age related dramas of rust and bodges etc make the e36 a much more pain free onwership now. e36's are old but they're a good car that will do big mileges with less servicing than an e30
Had plenty of experience of both and I've always found the E36 to be a cheaper daily runner. Parts are more plentiful (& cheaper - dealer E30 parts seem to be rising in price everyday) and fuel economy is a lot better which makes a big difference at £1.20 per litre. Neglected E36s do go a bit scabby (arches, panel between the bootlid and bumper) but they don't seem to suffer the terminal rot a lot of E30s are afflicted with. My old 1997 316i was an absolute peach of a car - dog slow admittedly but a lovely little daily driver that would return 40mpg on a run, immaculate interior and not a hint of rust. The E46 coupe that replaced it is a better car in many ways but has already had more faults and more rust than the E36.
A very good M43 powered 316i/318i is probably the best sub £1K car you can buy IMO. Regular servicing and they'll clock up 250K easily.

the E36 is a very competent car in many respect's. if you can find one then go for the 328i touring as it is very capable.
word of warning though, if any one tells you they don't rust then they are talking out of their arse, went with a mare yesterday to have a look at a E36 325ise which my mate had been told was mint,
got there had a look & it was like a mint full of holes, the rear arches where falling out/off, the sills (what was left of them) where hardly there & the joker still wanted strong money.
suffice to say that i soon made sure my mate kept his cash in his pocket & left.
