My bushes turned up today and I am looking at them and thinking - why are they two piece items and not like the standard bmw offset wishbone bushes ?!!?!

My point being = Surely the inner part which goes onto the end of the wishbone will pivot inside the outer as the wheel moves up and down...

I am guessing it does not move enough to matter, but - whats wrong with just making a 1 piece bush ?

Also they do not look like they are going to give a huge amount of offset but I am led to believe that when combined with E36 3.2 hubs/wishbones the wheel should sit forward enough not to be a problem on the e30 ?.

I am tempted to get some treehouse racing style mounts or machine down some hockey pucks on a lathe and try to make some one piece bushes and see how far offset I can make the hole for the wishbone get it to move forward with the hope of not having to source the costly 3.2 wisbones...

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated as I am sure I am not the first person to think about this and my searching is just failing

If it makes any difference by the way, I have Apex racing coilovers from an E36 3.2, standard hubs and wishbones from the same vehicle and RPM fully adjustable top mounts...

Why not just use the BMW eccentric bushes Will? Solid rubber, less bulky than the powerflex and only £30 odd.
Do you have the Evo wishbones or the earlier 3.0 litre jobs? As I understand it you have to use the Evo wishbones

I was hoping to have something a bit harder than the BMW ones, hoping to increase steering accuracy (not something for the road cars as I bet noise and vibration are vastly increased).

But basically if I can eradicate the need for evo wishbones (and have the bonus of a harder material) that would be great.
As I am sure you know - good second hand evo wishbones are few and far between and not cheap whereas the standard E30/6 ones are 10 to the dozen and picked up for a few quid !

I am going to give it a bash as soon as I can find somebody local who is willing to let me loose on their lathe !!!

So basically...

E36 M3 wishbones - approx 100-125/pair used and over £100 eac new iirc...
Offset BMW bushes - £30 ? ish (im not sure on these) or Polyflex type offset bushes - £45

verses

E30/36 wishbones - £20+ vat
hockey pucks - £4
Beer money to borrow lathe £10
Effort - £free lol

can you see what I am thinking ?

plus I have another E30 project now and another complete e36ti trailing arm/rear beam setup kicking around along with various wishbones and some hockey pucks and so on...

That £175 could be money towards rubber haha winkeye

Good news, after a facebook request for the use of a lathe I have 2 possibilities already :D

I will update with my findings and experiments as and when...

I cant see how you will move the arm forwards enough by machining a new rear bush, you would have to redesign the lollypop mount IMO

Id probably just buy the wishbones to save all the messing 8)

There is nothing wrong with the 2 piece powerflex bush.. No extra noise or vibration

You need the Evo wishbones with offset bushes, unless you are going to completely redesign the rear bush out of metal and spherical bearing..
Got cable ties? Get diffin..

Because you'd destroy them trying to fit them if they were one piece like the rubber part.

does anyone have a pic of how these are supposed to look once fitted? thanks

i.e what way round the bushes push in, and where the position of the eccentric should be

Just posted this in tech help too, hope it helps:

This is the N/S bush. Basicaly you want the wishbone 'pin' as close to the mounting point which bolts to the car as possible.
