Bad luck mate!
That's why whenever I see the rozzers I pull a swift U-turn and exit from the car and walk around till the coast is clear.
Even though I'm fully insured, they start pondering and asking stupid questions like "oh what make is it....just for reference purposes"

Raj what a fluffed up one bud.
It doesn't look too bad from the pics as long as the front legs (either side of the engine) are straight it's worth sorting.
As for the plod I wouldn't have signed a thing and see if they fancy a night being shouted at by their Sargent for nicking this guy, then explain how you'll complain like hell when taken in and was that a little hint at skin colour?
You would have had them turning pale and saying sorry. A pair of jumped up muppets with a badge.
I'll get a care package together for ya fella just send a list once your have had a closer butchers at the damage.

I got stopped on the way from work in my sport when I had no MOT or tax and had only insured the car the night before.
I was taking my car into work to be MOT'd and at lunch was going to tax it but there was a problem with our MOT computer system so my car couldn't get tested until the next day.
On my way home a police car that I noticed at the side of the road started to follow me so I pulled over where it was safe to do and the cop car pulled in behind me.
I said, "I know why you've stopped me, no MOT or tax" to which he replied "and no insurance"
I explained the situation to the officer and he tried to phone my company but could not get through. He saw I was in my work clothes and as we repair their cars (he was in an E61 5 series touring) and saw that the car was no old banger gave me the benefit of the doubt and let me on my way.
If he had been a c0ck and decided to have the car towed then things would have escalated as there is no way in hell I would let my car out of my sight into the hands of you typical recovery driver and no doubt pick up some sort of damage along the way!

Lol, I usually do it on the sly so they always manage to get caught up by a good 20 seconds, giving me enough time to turn off into the next road and quickly jump out and light a ciggarette looking all innocent
They can't prove it was me driving so legally they have no right to stop me, other than for a stop and search, which isn't related to the car
The look on their faces as they drive by with me smiling at them is jokes!

I would lodge a formal complaint against the officer right away.
Once they could verify your details, a producer is all they should have given you then waved you on your way.
Don't put up with this bollox.

I remember when my uncle got caught for drink driving i think, they got his mercedes AMG recovered, when my dad collected the car he found that the alloys had been badly curbed and had a few scratches on the panelsbss325i wrote:I got stopped on the way from work in my sport when I had no MOT or tax and had only insured the car the night before.

No, he was talking to German-whips.
I'm disgusted by the charges that the pound levied by the way. In my suspicious mind, I wonder if that money found it's way back to the officers concerned.... not that you'd ever be able to prove anything.

Wow that is harsh, Hope it all get's better for you. I showed the thread to a friend who is in traffic, He rekons it's standerd to ring the insurance data base or company as most of them are manned 24hr anyway. Problem is you gave in and they can do what they want once you do. Easy money for them and counts towards there monthly target.

The Police wonder why so many people don't trust them and yet this kind of rubbish goes on. The way I see it is they are doing extorsion ( spelling ) against your car.

Little update....
Spoke to the van drivers manager and they offered to repair the car upto the cost of £400 any more then that and it will be insurance job. I spoke to my insurance company and they said that they wont repair the car due to being to old and they most likly wont let me keep the car, as there are new laws about catagorised vehicles, not sure how true this is.
I might just take the 400 and if its anymore, pay out myself.
Also asked the insurance of the police issue and they said the mid had been informed 24hrs after my insurance was live, and that its a police issue. They are sending me a letter to prove that the mid was upto date, so i can show the police and try to claim all expenses back.

We'll sort something out with the price as it'll be a shame to leave this mortal coil.

I would say def go through you insurance company and in the end wats a CAT C or D write off anyway if you still love the old girl.

I dont mind if the car gets catagorised, as im keeping the car. I just dont want to lose it to some insurance company.
I spoke the the recovery company and they said the charges are correct and i can put in a complaint, to which they will investigate the matter.
Spoke to the local police here in bolton and they had advised me that they may have been an issue with the staff police systems and that they went about the whole situation in the incorrect manner. They have give me a contact number and a form to fill out to help me claim my funds back, but they said it can take well upot 12months before i see any return!!!

fill in the forms fella at the very least recoup the costs of them taking it, I'm sure without your signature it would have been a whole lot better. The police didn't follow procedure and any half baked solictor will draft a letter for a £10 fixed fee visit and maybe £20 for the letter. You will get your money back asap or you will take them to court including the officers for a breach of conduct and not following procedure.
